I thought this would be interesting to hear. I hope I'm posting this in right section of the forum.

So does anyone teach in a school where someone famous has hailed from in the past? My story really isn't anything to brag about--50 cent and his entourage G-Unit used to go to the former school I just transferred from this past year. This year a few of them came to the school and donated thousands of dollars of school supplies. It was really nice of them.

I wasn't sure if he went to the school, but in the other neighborhood I used to teach in, Grandmaster Flash (you know the song "The message" from the 80s, the first rapper) grew up in the neighborhood. I guess you can say I've taught in the worst hoods of the city, lol.

    Any cool stories?

A professional football player visited my day care on a PR stunt. My daughter taught an Olympic swimmer to swim when he was young.

My school is only 20 years old; our alumni base is still pretty young.

But my husband's school has quite a list of distinguished alumni.

My all time favorite is Brian Denehy. Peter even posed for a picture at a fundraiser one time. From what everyone says, he's absolutely a gentleman-- a total sweetheart!

They also have a huge number of politicians, pro athletes, financial movers and shakers, and some pretty distinguished names in the military.

Oh, and a friend of mine taught Natalie Portman. Even then, she had nothing but wonderful things to say about her.

The local newscaster here graduated from where I am teaching now. Not that big of a deal really, but they think it is. I find her horribly annoying and she was the graduation speaker this year and her speech was really bad.

Well, I'm not teaching yet, but Alan Ruck graduated from my high school and my cousin's girlfriend was Laura Linney's T.A. at Juilliard.

My cousin is a well-known composer among the classical music industry.

We have some baseball players and state senators, a radio personality and an Olympian or two. No one super famous.

The high school I graduated from has a Pulitzer Prize winner and a well-known drag queen. (Oh, and several award-winning physicist and other scientist who are well-known in their respective fields.)

I taught a kid that has acted in some movies. B movies but he had decent roles. I have also taught a few murderers. It all evens out.

We had a pro MLB player (he played for the Red Sox, Mets, and Phillies in the 90s). He came back and coached at the HS after he retired. We also had a guy that was on One Life to Live for awhile in the 90s.

    That's it!

That's too bad, but I guess it happens all over.

One kid became famous in a not so good way this year. A student who went to my former school about 4 years ago stole a car while he was drunk, crashed it and died. Really tragic. It was all over the newspapers, I don't know if you remember it. Then again, it tends to happen often here unfortunately.

Anyone have some good stories? :D

I briefly taught at a private homeschool like place this past fall. One of my students was in the middle of getting a major record deal. Had a limo get him from school every day. I can't remember his name...lol. His venue was Rap. Really nice kid. Hope he does well and stays clean.

The son of a well known singer (probably well known to the older crowd here LOL) went to my school. I briefly worked with this kid but he was never really my student. Even though the dad was famous he was such a nice guy and did a lot of charity work.

The school where I student taught is the school that Miranda Lambert (country singer) graduated from.

The school where I'm about to start teaching has a famous football player as an alumni, but I'm bad and don't even know his name. He played for the Washington Redskins, I think.

My sister graduated from high school with Jamie Foxx. That's not his real name, and she remembers him being nice, very studious.

Since people are sharing stories about who's gone to their school, I'll share some too...

    My high school:
-Jai Rodriguez from Queer eye for the straight guy.
-One of the guys who made it in American Idol's top 4 or something, graduated with my sister. She's friends with him. I forgot his name.

My mom went to school with Kareem Abdul Jabar and knew him. I know there were others, but can't remember.

I was in judo class with a young lady who went on to be an Olympic Judo competitor for the USA. Even when she was little (and I mean little!!!), she could throw any of us older kids around. She was, and is, amazing in her abilities.

My high school, unfortunately, had Robert Lee Yates in my father's graduating class. The Green River Killer... yikes.

I don't know of anyone else. But then, it's a pretty small town here.

    Ok... here's one.

My mother went to school and was in the same graduating class with Hugh Hefner. She reports that he was a nerdy guy who wasn't given much credit for anything...but always carried around a briefcase. She is now convinced that he must have had dirty pictures in it.

I certainly don't have to google my high school's name to know if anyone famous attended...if that happened we'd probably rename the school, or at least the football field. :)
