I've taught special ed in both self-contained and co-taught settings in K-8 classrooms in IL for the last 4 years. I'm certified to teach all grade levels, all disabilities (except hearing and vision), and all severity levels. I've had a wide variety of needs in my classes the last few years. Unfortunately, due to state budget cuts, I was pink slipped this past year. Rather than waiting around to see if I'd be re-hired, I accepted a position teaching special ed in IA. I'm going to be working with level 2 6th graders. I think I have an idea what this means, but I'm wondering if there is anyone out there that can give me a better idea of the ability levels that I'm going to be working with. I've spoken with the principal at my new school and I'll be meeting with their old teacher in a few weeks, but he was not really able to give me any ideas. I won't have access to IEP's for several weeks. Thanks for any advice!
