What do you do if you can't tell if the principal is male or female? The name is "Jean," which I know can be either...there's nothing on the website that hints one way or the other, and no pictures. I know I could just put the name, but then I have Dear..... I feel like I can't really call the school and just say "Hiiii, just wondering if your principal was a man or a woman!"

Don't ask if the principal's female. Ask a question about something that the principal is involved in and listen for he vs. she in the answer.

    smart thinking TeacherGroupie....
Is Jean really a male's name when it is spelled like that????
I thought the male version of Jean is spelled like this Gene.
Learn something new everyday I guess.

I think those gender rules went out the window. But I've only seen Jean as man's name when it was Jean-Luc or Jean-Paul.......

Captain Picard's name was pronounced more like John-Luc Picard even though we always saw it spelt as Jean-Luc.

Technically, Gene is how it's spelt for a man as JenL pointed out though I suppose it's possible for a man to spell it Jean.

Gene is the shortened form of Eugene.

Jean as a man's name is french for John.

What a simple idea, I should have thought of that myself! I'm fairly certain that it is a woman but I would hate to make an assumption like that and have my stuff chucked into the trash pile because of something silly. I'll let you all know on Monday what I find out!

Silly idea but sometimes principals have voice mail. You could call today and see if she has her own voice mail.

You could try to google it like this:

    "jean lastname" + "abc school"

and see what comes up. There has to be some sort of interview or something-- at least you would think so.
