Found out just a few moments ago the job I really, really wanted has been given to someone else. :( I had experience and everything for that job too. I did apply for a job at the school where my oldest child attends, but I am not holding out any sort of hope at all that I'll even get a response. I think at this point, with five days to go for pre planning, principals are only posting jobs because they have to by law.

Apply EVERYWHERE-not just where you see job postings...You never know there could be a last minute staff change or enrollment bubble that would precipitate the need for a new teacher and your resume would be right there!!

I know in my area they are holding off on hiring till school actually starts! With the budget mess, most districts are holding off until absolutely necessary.

That was what I was thinking too MATgrad, but I am checking our county site every few hours and they are pulling jobs down as fast as they post them. I am to the point of thinking it is all in vain. They post them because they have to post for XX of hours, but in reality they have their person lined up already. I think I am more upset over the principal I know personally from volunteering in my child's school 2-3 times a week last yr not even giving me the time of day for an email response.

That would irritate me too. He/she could have least given you an interview just b/c you volunteered so much.

Things are very quite here today a few posting were up yesterday, gone today. I'm getting out-of-replies to e-mails, but I guess it's better than that position has been filled.

My best friend said the volunteering may have hurt me really. I was in my child's class 2-3 times a week for about four hours at a time. Because I am a teacher, I often helped the teacher with reading or math groups since I knew the lessons and could help her and not just be an extra body in the room ya know? Maybe the P. thinks why bother to hire me if I come work in her school for free. :dizzy:

Don't give up...keep applying. When I was hired 4 years ago, I was interviewed and hired on Wednesday before pre-planning started Monday. Since I was hired "late" and didn't attend the New Teacher Orientation, I was considered to have a temporary contract. In the county I work for, any teachers who were hired under a temporary contract last year were not rehired yet...so they are having to interview for all posted jobs because they weren't guaranteed a job this year. That is what you are up against, but I know that my principal hired a girl that student taught at our school last year because a special ed position opened up a couple of weeks ago. Just keep sending out those resumes...there is still time to get a job!

This is ABSOLUTELY true. There are still jobs out there. I was hired 2 weeks after the school year began my first year teaching. Do not give up home yet!!!!!!
