ANOTHER Facebook Warning

Facebook can use your photos in their ads unless you change default.

My is at friends only...will that work or do I need to do something else?

 

Wow! I did read that someone said they owned your photos, but how scary...I was just thinking of reopening my FB, now I am not sure....
I do love the commincation, though so quick...oh what to do!

Here's what the Facebook settings page has to say:

Facebook occasionally pairs advertisements with relevant social actions from a user's friends to create Facebook Ads. Facebook Ads make advertisements more interesting and more tailored to you and your friends. These respect all privacy rules.

All you have to do to prevent this is sign in to Facebook and click through to (get ready) -> Settings -> Privacy -> News Feed and Wall -> Facebook Ads -> Appearance in Facebook Ads and click "no one." Unless, of course, you want to be semifamous and have your picture used to push some garbage product or website without your knowledge. (note: when I tried to make this change just now, the site returned an error. oh, and it might not work in Firefox either due to a 'bug.')

I guess since we can turn this abomination off we shouldn't get too worked up about it. Still, it's pretty **** unsavory to use someone's friend's face to advertise a product and give the appearance that that friend might endorse it.

 

I just checked my facebook, followed the instructions to shut them off but there is nothing there. I click on "Facebook Ads" and nothing appears. Will check again in a few days.

 

I was able to change the setting. It seems like every few days I'm fighting the "privacy means..." battle with facebook.

 

I fixed it. I certainly don't want my pictures popping up in my advertisements or even my friends' advertisements. Mine is mainly for family, friends, and other teacher friends, but still... I would be upset if the photos showed up on any profile besides someone I know.

 

Thanks for telling about this. I've noticed before my friends' faces asking me to play a game or add an app or something. Glad to know my face won't be on there now.

Thanks for the warning! I fixed mine. That is very sneaky on their part...especially since it's in a different tab!

 

I know, right? I check my settings all the time for new stuff, and that's the first time I've seen that and I wouldn't have thought to click on it. I wouldn't have even known what it meant!

I noticed while in the privacy area, too, that your wall posts are visible to everyone unless you change it to Friends Only. Everything is Friends Only for me except for my friend's list that is visible to Friends of Friends.

I just went through settings and changed a bunch of stuff. My account wasn't as private as I thought it was.
