What are some things people do that you dislike?

My neighbors like to have loud parties on Friday, often late into the night. Last night, I woke up at 3am to my apartment smelling like drugs, and I heard voices outside my front door. It was clear my neighbor and his friends were smoking it up outside my apartment door.

What are some things people do that you like?

My friends often bring a dish to share when we hang out. I don't even ask them and suddenly people are buying me and my whole group of friends dinner. I love this "potluck" mentality that my friends have.

My neighbors sell drugs. And they bought TWO houses. They are upper level sellers, so we don’t have users hanging around. I’d still prefer they move along. I’m outside the city limits and not in a subdivision, so they were able to move a ratty old travel trailer into their front yard. They’ve got some guy living in there. He’s a flunky for the business. Main guy is in jail. Son will be there soon. He doesn’t stay out very long. It was such a nice, quiet neighborhood when I moved here. Neighbors bought the house about four years ago.

They do typically keep to themselves otherwise, and they are always nice to me when we do interact. They also have really cute dogs and we love dogs.

I generally don’t have annoying neighbors. The guy next door is awesome and has helped my hubs with a few DIYs...

We have great neighbors, except they don’t rake their yard, and the wind blows their downed leaves our way, and we already have over 80 trees of our own, so .....

When we lived in a rental, the guy across the street would blast music until three or four a.m. At the house before the rental, a guy would use a hammer and saw at one in the morning and was totally shocked we could hear him inside our house. Idiot.

At our current home, there are some weekend only residents. Every once in a while, there will be a loud party. At our weekend home, a neighbor will have two parties a year. Most of the time, it’s very quiet. We don’t have any immediate neighbors at either place.

So we live basically in the middle of nowhere (we have like five acres of land) but we do have a neighbor to the right of us and one directly across the street. The ones to the right of us (it's a man and a woman) are avid nudists. It was quite shocking for us when we first moved in, was looking out the kitchen window making coffee and there was a whole lot of stuff we didn't want to see. Other than that the biggest complaint I have is the ones across the street tend to have large BBQs and stuff and their people will sometimes park in our driveway/on the side of the road in front of our house. I don't care about the road but don't like it in our driveway.

My neighbors are great in general. I do not like when they let their dogs pee on my mailbox post or bushes. One woman let her KID pee on my bushes. Come on, people!!!
They are usually friendly and will wave to say hi but I like that they all keep to themselves for the most part and don't bother us :)
One time there was some issue up the side road (my house is on the corner so my backyard is located up the side road) and there were 3 firetrucks and a bunch of police cars. The issue wasn't in my backyard but my neighbor from across the street sent me a text asking if we were ok since she couldn't see where the firetrucks were going. I thought that was nice that we have neighbors who look out for each other.

There's a busy street in town where one family is always having yard sales. One time we decided to stop at the yard sale and parked our car kind of in the woody area across from the house. Well, LOTS of yard sale patrons decided to park their cars in the neighbor's driveway and the guy came out and got so mad. Now he has a big sign on yard sale day saying DO NOT PARK IN MY DRIVEWAY!! That has to be really annoying for them.

I mean it's frustrating because if we're coming or going, or we have someone coming or going, then we have to wait for someone else to get their mess out of our way. We got tired of screwing with it and eventually put up a wooden fence/gate combo. There's not enough driveway on the other side to park in without being in the road. And Yanno that wasn't intentional or anything ;)

And Trademark to be fair, I don't really interact with our neighbors like that. They leave us alone, we leave them alone. And that's exactly the way I like it. We didn't move to the middle of nowhere to be friends with our neighbors. That was not the intent.

One of my next-door neighbours is well-known for cutting his grass in the dark! During the summer, he frequently fires up the lawnmower at about 9:00 or 9:15 pm and finishes about 10:15 or so. He has even attached a flashlight to the handle of the mower so that he can see!

That said, I'm very lucky with the neighbours I have. The lawnmower neighbour blows out the bottom of my driveway when the snow is too deep or heavy for me to deal with; the neighbour on the other side trenched a section of my yard that was flooding. Help is always a knock on the door away.

This thread makes me happy. I thought I was alone in my misery of loud obnoxious neighbors, and now I see I have company! (I am very serious!) It really helps to know that others also suffer from people who party until 4 or 5 in morning. (Mine do it OFTEN) When the idea of loving one's neighbors was thought up, it was before stereo speakers which play bass so strong it shakes the house. I love some neighbors, like others, and dislike others...some a lot. I live in a very very urban area, houses stuck right up on each other, ...sigh. I am the idiot who decided to live here. There are other (bad) issues, but sound is really stress inducing. just feels good to vent about it. I fantasize that either they, or I, win the lottery and move far far away. Either scenario works for me!

That was my positive. Quiet is nice. Not having immediate neighbors is even better.

At the ranch, we can’t even see our neighbors as we have around fifty acres. At the beach, we can see other houses but have many lots separating us from other homes and they are currently weekend only residents.

To be honest, I just don't have issues with my neighbors. Although I live in a subdivision, I can only see their houses when the leaves are down. Someone asked me once whether a neighbor's barking dogs bothered me, but I really don't even hear them. For several years I lived across from a church where the bells tolled every hour - day and night. There are just some things you learn to tune out!

We have recently moved to a new community where most people are retired or snowbirds. It's so quiet here you could hear a pin drop. The folks I have met are very welcoming and friendly. Our daughter stayed in the other house and now she gets to deal with the neighbors upstairs who have children running wild and driving battery powered vehicles all over the place (inside!)

We live in the middle of nowhere other than the neighbors to the south that share our driveway (we have 12 acres and our house was put up by the children of former owners of the house to the south). We have great neighbors who help us out when we need it, they will check in on our dogs when we go out of town and make sure everything is good at our place and we return the favor when needed.

It is very nice when your neighbors help you out. If a neighbor does somewhat annoying things, but then helps me out from time to time, I might be inclined to forgive the person for the slightly annoying things they do. I will never forgive people if they don't help out, though.

My current neighbors are mostly very quiet. Lots of young couples in the building. People are very respectful and help out, for the most part. I have the neighbor that does drugs on my left, some super quiet old ladies across the hall, and a couple at the end of the hall. Really, drug guy is the only guy who gives me problems....and he is at it again tonight with another loud gathering that just started.

My husband just outfitted his truck to be able to plow our driveway when it snows! He already decided he will be plowing the driveway across the street if he has extra time. Those neighbors only have a very small snowblower so I'm sure they will appreciate it. If they were jerky people he probably wouldn't do it for them. Just be nice to your neighbors because you might need their help someday!

I could live without fireworks simply because my dogs freak out. Wishing they would disappear does me no good, so I try to sleep through them by imagining money going up in smoke, never to be seen again. I try to get the dogs in as soon as I hear the first ones going off. Hubby hates them, but since his hearing is less than perfect, he can often sleep through them. The midnight ones are a little more annoying, but at least it isn't gun shots, so I am grateful for the distinction. I don't care about leaves, people's parties, or people who build at night. My neighbors are routine - some loud, some nice, but mostly just OK. Hope they say the same about us.

I don't know the neighbors to the right (across an alley)
. The neighbor straight across doesn't ever do anything loud, etc. I have talked to her a few ties, once when my car was broken into to warn her and a couple of times when I went out of town for an extended time, just in case she sees something suspicious or my dogs get out, etc.
The neighbors to the left, across a main street (i'm on a corner) are more interesting, there are at least 10 people living there. I have hired them once to mow my lawn and one of the teenage kids to clean up my backyard. Major gang affiliation with the whole family, the kid's face (who cleaned my back yard) is fully covered with tattoos, but I don't judge and he was very sweet :)
Also once when my daughter and I were in Reno for 3 days my younger German shepherd got out, they got and kept her until we came back. I was very happy, in return I gave them some fresh rabbit meat I had just hunted lol.
They sometimes have some loud music and chatter going into the 2 am, but only once in a while and it's during the weekend so I forgive them.
And not too long ago when I was gone for the weekend, my garage door someone opened (this happens sometimes) and the neighbors of these neighbors called the cops because they were so concerned. Nothing was missing.

This small city has very high poverty and very high crime rate, so it's good to be nice to the neighbors, you never know when you'll need them, but not too nice or trusting because you never know who they really are.

Well this thread sure is solidifying my desire to never move! Our neighbors are amazing. When you have a big life event (moving, getting married, having a baby, etc...), we have two neighbors who always bring over food, gifts, etc... they're very friendly and always helpful if needed. I needed a bucket of water at 9:30 one night and my neighbor didn't even bat an eye at me. They keep to themselves though and aren't nosey at all. We had a new baby and our neighbor raked our yard for us unexpectedly. We also have a neighbor who will snow blow your driveway for you all winter for $10. Like $10 for the whole season. He's one of my favorites LOL.

Our one neighbor is kind of weird. They were mad when we tore down a dying tree. It was cracking our foundation and ruining their driveway, so you'd think he'd have been more okay with it. He's the same one though who said "wow better cut the lawn huh" on the day we literally closed on the house. It was 5:30 at night too. We had it done the next day.

We also have a breakfast every summer one neighbor hosts and luminaries on Christmas Eve.

Mostly though I'm super grateful for our neighbors. We live in the city and our lots are the size of postage stamps, so having good neighbors is vital!

It's not the end of the world. My rent is easily 1/2 or 1/3 of what I would pay in San Diego and we're not talking about the best part of town, but my pay is not any less. Break ins can happen anywhere. It happened to me, here, and it was awful, but could have happened in a nice town. So now I have 2 German Shepherds, cameras and a shotgun under my bed just in case they come when I'm home lol

That sounds rather like the small town I used to live in, minus the gang affiliations. The town was very poor, there was lots of property crime because of it, and yet the neighbors were super sweet. Mostly couples and families, and they helped out whenever they could. They were so friendly. I miss living there. Don't think I could live near a gang, though.

It is nice to trust your neighors, but not too much because they could turn around and do stuff you never expected. For example, I used to live down the street from people who proudly displayed several flags, amongst them a Confederate flag, in their truck's flatbed. They were super helpful, always said hello, but I was always afraid that if they figured out I was Iranian, the relationship would take a negative turn. That is why I help out when necessary, to build good will, but otherwise, unless the neighbor is excellent, I don't really hang out with my neighbors. Not opposed to inviting neighbors over, but I have yet to meet any I have felt comfortable enough to invite over.

One thing my husband says that my neighbor does is bringing out her garbage with too little clothes on (even in winter). She doesn't leave much to the imagination (and not in a good way).

    Things I hate:
    1. My downstairs neighbor smokes like a chimney. In the apartment. I haven't reported them yet because they think walking to the bathroom at night is too noisy and starting pounding on the ceiling. I'm biding my time until they lodge a complaint about noise to pull out my spreadsheet of over 500 incidences in the past six months were the smell of smoke was wafting into my apartment.
1a. People sometimes have arguments in the parking lot. Last night at 3 a.m. for example. People were shouting the 'f' bomb so many times and so loudly and speaking in such angry voices I thought I was going to hear a gun go off. That happens from time to time.
1b. Probably my biggest annoyance: NEIGHBORS WHO STILL HAVE THEIR CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS UP. IT'S BEEN A MONTH! TAKE THAT DOWN!

    Things I love:
    2. My complex has a quasi-neighborhood watch. Mostly looking for porch pirates. They've gotten a few arrested by taking pictures and writing down license plates.
2a. It's a safe enough complex during the day that free-range kids roam the complex, the playground, and a private park shared by about four complexes in the area. I think that's good for kids.
2b. I have a few neighbors who know I'm a female living alone and they really keep an eye out on me. They'll text me at night to make sure I'm okay and let me know they're keeping an eye on my apartment door, just to have an extra layer of safety.

Since it's just about neighbors we're talking about here, I honestly have ZERO complaints here at the apt complex where I've lived for 6.5 yrs. Actually, I've had no issues w/ any neighbors the entire time I've been living here & I thank God for that! :D

We all keep to ourselves other than the occasional saying HI if we pass each other. No one loiters around outside for nothing. If anyone's outside, it's for a purpose. It's because we're walking to & from our cars, moving, & that kind of thing.

I assume this is rare because I'm sure there are horror stories out there. This is the 1st apt I've ever lived in & other than the high rent that happens every single year despite negotiating, I quite love it here.

Speaking of neighbors, my neighbor who smokes is also really hilarious. He has the worst singing voice, but he puts on the best music and just belts it at the top of his lungs (usually all day, if he is home). The music is really good, too, so it brings a smile to my face. I love it when someone has confidence in themselves like that.

We had another house fire on my road. That is nine since I moved here. Three of them are right in a row.

They really need to figure out who is starting them. It makes me nervous. One of the neighbors is an arsonist.

That’s horrible! Do you have a security system? If not, it’s time for one.

I hope the person is caught.

My neighbor has been doing something really annoying! She's ordering Domino's pizza to be delivered and every time I see the darn pizza car in her driveway I want pizza!!! They also get other deliveries from restaurants ALL THE TIME. Drives me nuts since usually I'm watching from my kitchen window while cooking something healthy and not as yummy as her take out. LOL Maybe if I go over there to borrow something she'll offer me a slice??
