I was hired exactly a week ago. I can't go in until HR finalizes everything. Its just frustrating knowing that schools starts the week after next. While waiting I've:

-created my syllabus with expectations, hw policy, etc. (waiting until i talk to my friend/co-worker about some mandatory policies and such before finalizing it)

-figured out my first 2 days

-starting to work on a powerpoint for the first lessons

-did some shopping for things i'll need and other supplies

    -made a classroom website

-compiled a list of tons of questions.

just trying to make good use of my time while i'm waiting.

I had to email HR.... it's a district with over 10,000 employees, and you have to go through a very tough phone screener before your call is transferred. After you are transferred you have to go through a dept screener. Today was the deadline for all names to be submitted to the district for hire, so needless to say I did not get through lol. I did the next best thing, email.

Yeah, your district is huge and I've heard it can be disorganized at times. Good thinking with the email. Hopefully you will hear something soon!

Great start! I have orientation every day next week except for Friday. Do you have orientation as well?

It sounds like you've done a lot. I also feel like I'm in a holding pattern. I start in less than two weeks and have been given NO curriculum materials or info on my kids other than that they are "moderately" language and learning disabled. I asked my principal for info on the curriculum and she said she had to review their IEPs first. Okay, well...?

I have orientation next week W-F so hopefully I'll get something then or I'll have to start making a pest of myself.

Do you know any of the teachers that you will be working with? Perhaps if they've worked there prior to this year you could email them and get some feedback on your stuff?

Gosh I would hate to be waiting on stuff like this, but congrats on the job and I hope you have a wonderful year!
