This is so depressing. Dream school, nearly dream position, second interview, references called and I blew it! I hate interviews, I hate this field sometimes.

I'm so sorry to hear your dreams were crushed. Are you sure you "blew it?" Maybe the other candidate had more experience? Knew the principal?

I have no idea what happened, I just assume it was me. I graduated with the Director of HR that was in the interview yesterday. We knew each other as acquaintences 14 years ago in high school, but who knows, maybe they had more experience working with students of this type.

sorry - sometimes the places we consider to be a dream aren't at all. So maybe there is something even better out there waiting for you to find it.

    I'm so sorry.

Speaking as a Mets fan, let me recite my favorite tidbit of advice:

    "Ya gotta believe!!!"

This wasn't the one. The next one will be. Ask SmallTownGirl.

Maybe the person just had more experience with the class that you would have had. You made it really far and should feel proud. I know how depressing that can be. The other day I got a rejection email from a school that I had only applied to online and did not even interview for. Even though I have a job, it still kinda made me sad.

Is there anyone you can ask about why you were rejected? If it was because the other person had more experience, then you can't do anything about it. But, if there was another reason, maybe you can fix it before your next interview.

I'm sorry, but let me tell you something about my year and all my rejections. I didn't understand why I kept getting rejected over and over even with good references, experience, and good interviews. When I got my job, I understood it was where I was meant to be. Good luck on more interviews!

Don't give up!! Think positive!! What often we feel is ideal ends up turning into something that is not. I too hate to interview but it is a necessary evil. We do the best that we can and move on. The dream job will come along. Be patient and believe!

I emailed the Director of HR to see what I could do to improve my interviewing skills. I figured he may answer since I graduated high school with him. We will see.

It's probably nothing you did. I went to an interview at the end of May and the principal even said that I came highly recommended from my current principal and other admins. (I was happy at current PS job but my position was eliminated due to budget issues.)

Anyway, my interview was great, but I didn't get the job. I found out later that they hired an alum of the school who also has a master's degree. Nothing to do with me at all... I went to two other interviews and was offered both positions!

That school just missed out on you - their loss.

I am sorry to hear this. It is disappointing. Don't give up. Something will come your way. And don't beat yourself down. I'm learning that things are not always what they seem. What I mean by that is, don't assume you've done something wrong just because you didn't get the job.
