I know that Alice had started a thread about what makes a good teacher... but today, I found out from one of my students that I am an excellent teacher! We were talking about the numbers 1 to 100, and I had taken several numbers off the hundred pocket chart and gave them to students to place in the right spot. I asked each student how they were able to figure out where their number went... several said they knew that 84 came after 83, so they put it right after the 83. Others saw the pattern of the 80s all being in one row, and each column counting up by ones, and figured it out that way. I asked another student "How do you know that's where the number goes?" Her response? "Because I have an excellent teacher!" Cracked me up!
Love this story, dfleming! Be sure you write her quote, in big letters, at the front of your plan book so that you can look at it on those not-so-smooth days. (Hmmm, I wonder if she would write you a letter of reference to keep in your files?)
