So I got hired for a teaching job back in June (on the spot). After the interview, the superintendent called me 10 minutes later and told me to turn around because they had offered me the job and they wanted me to check out my classroom. After meeting most of the faculty and being introduced as the new English teacher, I was on cloud nine because this is my first teaching job! The principal said I would get approved for the July board meeting, but I looked on the agenda and they aren't approving any teaching positions yet and therefore, my position is not on the agenda. (kind of worried) The principal told me that when I was approved at that meeting I could get my keys. I have been in some contact with the English department head/mentor about coming in to do some planning before September hits. Since they offered me the position and I accepted, I have the position, correct? What are your thoughts? HELP! (Apologies for being a worry-wart: it is my first teaching position)!
Theyre probably just being slow---schools are super slow in the summer and its hard to get everyone together for a proper board meeting. I would say call the principal and ask, but I wouldnt worry! Congrats!!
I would definitely say that you are hired. In our district, board meetings are just a formality. The hiring is basically in the hands of the principal. Contracts are sometimes signed after school has started.
That's something I'm hearing too!! Although I feel like a school should require a candidate to sign a contract sooner, to protect themselves..otherwise a candidate can just as easily go somewhere else. I've also heard of schools going with other candidates too, although thats more rare.
