Looking back, laughing now, he was not sophisticated. He was dumber than a box of rocks! I was just naïve and had not experienced that kind of scrutiny/negativity before. Yeah, when I 1st started teaching, P's had teacher's backs. It was a different time and place. I think it is time for that to be added into teaching college. I'd love to see a bunch of young assertive ( not aggressive) teachers come out, kick butt, and take names! One of the best schools I was ever at, teachers actually "ran" the school. The P was just there. It does make all of the difference in the world when even 1 teacher has your back. You learned a good lesson through your hardship.
Now thinking about it, the one I dealt with wasn't sophisticated in that sense either. I've noticed the dynamics at schools have changed a lot just in the last several years since I went back to college and stopped substitute teaching regularly. At all my field placements, I heard teachers talking about the changes they've seen and how the working environment keeps deteriorating. I was hoping with the problems so many teacher's are reporting that it would start leading to changes for the better. But, I guess one of the problems is the decline in teachers being seen the way they once were, as knowledgable professionals capable of making professional judgments on how to run things in a way that best serve their students.
