    Hi!!

What are some fun activities that you do in class to introduce and practice addition?

I use flashcards, wrap-ups, and begin by teaching the doubles rap.
I got the rap from Saxon math. I believe you can find it online.
Then I use math centers. Roll the dice or spinners to make addition sentences; computer games.
Rocket math is also a good program, it's just hard to grade each day. I use it in small groups and it makes it easier.:)

We have a very different math program... however....

We start by using story boards. Each board is a scene (a barn, a tree, a road, etc.) and they use manipulatives to make up a quick story. There are 2 birds in the tree and 2 birds on the ground. There are four birds all together.
We first start using the word "and" instead of "plus."
    2 and 2 is 4.
Then we'll start using plus and minus. Then we'll start adding in symbols later in the year.

Our math program seems really slow compared to what everyone else does, however we are really concentrating on number sense and getting a solid foundation on numbers.
