Does anyone know what I would have to do to add a multiple subject credential to my single subject credential? Doo I have to do student teaching again?

I'm not sure...try the CCCT website.

Pass CSET-MS, take another teaching-methods course, file with CCTC and throw some money at 'em - that should be it. Doublecheck with the nice people in the local county office of ed, in case local conditions are different.

You would probably have to take the subject classes for the subjects you do not have single subject credential in.

Nope: that's what CSET-MS is for. Oh, and I forgot RICA, the reading-instruction-methodology test.

I wrote the CTC about this and they said I had to take a methods class. two other classes and pass the CSET and RICA. You can send an e-mail to them or call for the specifics.

I have both a single subject and multiple subject credential. TeacherGroupie is correct. You don't have to do extra student teaching. I had to take one extra (8 unit) class, pass the Multiple Subject CSET and the RICA, and then apply with the CCTC. It costs the same as it originally cost to get your SS credential.

Also - I don't know if this applies to you, but I got both preliminary credentials at the same time, and only had to take one set of courses in order to clear both at the same time. If your SS is already cleared, you might want to ask the CCTC if you'll need to do anything in order to clear the MS credential, or if it will be issued as cleared.

I know it is easier to do it the other way around. If you have your MS credential, just take the single subject CSET in the course you want to teach and one additional course, and you've got your single subject credential. :) (This from our Cal State University system.)
