Has anyone tried Acupuncture? I'm thinking about giving it a try to help me with my migrainse but I don't know how uncomfortable the process is.
I tried acupuncture several years ago for my Chron's Disease. It seemed to help relieve the symptoms up to a certain point, then the effect leveled off. The process itself is not very painful, but is not completely painless either. After all, you DO have pins being stuck into your skin. This can be done through your clothing, however. You feel a small prick when the needle enters the skin, but that only lasts a second. Once the therapist places 3 or 4 needles, you can actually "feel" your body's natural electric current running between them like conductors. It doesn't hurt, just feels rather odd. I would think acupuncture could be effective for migraines. Either way, it won't hurt to give it a try. My doctor always placed me in a room with soothing music in the background and left the pins in for about 45 minutes. It was very relaxing and I usually felt quite refreshed at the end of each session.
My mother did it to help her quit smoking and she was terrified of needles! She said on a scale of 1-10 it was a 2.5/3.
My MD is a medical accupuncturist. Once when I was seeing him for something else I had a killer headache, and he treated me with accu. The headache was completely gone in 20 minutes.
I went a few times.....if you go to someone highly rec....then it should be fine.....the needles are so thin and when places properly you wont even knw theyre there....its not like if you poked your finger while sewing owwwww!
She said she found it helpful- no one will really know if it was the acupuncture or not. She hasn't smoked in 10 years.
I've wondered if it would help my foot and leg... plantar fasciitis or something like that... it hurts from the back of my knee to the achellies (sp?) to my heal.
I used to have regular accupuncture for chest pain/inflammation. I hardly felt the needles going in and found it so relaxing to just lie on the bed for half an hour or so while the needles were in. The only uncomfortable part was when she would press on my chest and surrounding area to find out where the worst pain was. I definitely felt improvement from the accupuncture and would reccommend giving it a try.
I'm thinking about going for chronic muscle pain. If I follow through- I will PM you the information.
