How many hours do you spend with your students.

I am with my students for five hours a day. This doesn't include the 40 min prep, or the 25 mins in the morning before they all arrive. The first arrives at 8:10 last arrives at 8:35. Also, doesn't include dismissal time first to leave is at 2:50 last to leave is at 3:10.
I have to spend at least 8 hrs at school a day. I am usually there closer to 9 or 10 hrs.
Seems horrible that out of the ten hrs there only 4hrs and 40 mins is actually with students in the classroom.

That's a good questions. My schedule is similar to yours, except the first ones arrive at 8. I'd say, if I count that time, which I do as I"m interacting with kids and usually reading with some, it's about 5 hours 15 minutes as I get about a 40 min prep period a day, tho somedays it's only 30 min and one day I get none! :)

Hmm... no prep, lunch or duty? Then that would be...5 hrs. 45 min. Recess duty adds 30 min.

ETA: And since recess duty is physcal activity duty, that is counted as instruction. When you're outside you are directing a planned out activity.

EAgainTA: We're contracted to be there from 7:30-3:15. I'm usually here by 7:15 at the latest, and stay at least until 5.

    It depends on my specials:

    Monday-Wednesday: 5 hours
    Thursday: 4 1/2 hours
    Friday: 4 hours, 15 minutes

The kids are at the school 6 hours and 35 minutes.

My students arrive at 7:20 and leave at 2:00. I am with them 24/7 so that's 6 hours 40 minutes.

I teach 3 eighty minute blocks so that's 4 hours. I also have a 40 minute duty but it doesn't require any teaching (it's a study hall). SO instructional time is 4 hours. I typically get to school at 6:45am and leave at 3:00pm so that's 8 hrs 15 minutes. So I teach less than half the time I'm physically at school. I also do an average of an extra hour's worth of work at home each day so I figure my working time to be about 9 hours per day, maybe 10 if a lot has been going on.

They are all in the room by 8:15; we go to lunch at 11:00. Then, I have them from 11:50-2:20, minus a fifteen minute recess. That's 5 hours. On Mondays and Wednesdays I have them for an extra 40 minutes (but we do music during one of those times).

4 hours and 55 minutes every day except minimum days which are scattered about the year and total about 20.

I get no prep or specials nor do I have any kind of aid. I generally don't get parent volunteers in class. If they learn it at school, they learn it from me.

    5 1/2 hours teaching time.

I have a 50 minute prep (30 minutes before school & 20 minutes after school), 50 minute lunch (duty-free), and a 20 minute recess (I have recess duty one week per month).

    Not bad, eh?

Five hours a day. I have 90 minutes of prep per week. I have an art teacher come in one hour per week, and we have science on our school farm 45 minutes per week - there's a teacher for that.

We get a 45 minute lunch and two 20 minute recesses each day.

I teach two classes; I spend 2 hours and 10 minutes with each class.

No wonder Johnny is having a heck of a time learning to read.

I have my whole group for 4 hours and 18 minutes every other day (no recess duty) and 4 hours and 38 minutes on the other days that I have duty. I also work with small groups for 1 more hour each day (4-11 kids). So typically I work with around 4 1/2 hours a day with kids out of a 8 1/2 hour work day.

And, on the recess note....we had THREE recess earlier this year and then we volunteered to have TWO longer recess. My kids get at least 40 minutes of recess a day....this time of the year...a bit more! :)
