For us, it's the last day of school before winter break and the kids are bouncing off the walls. Just curious what others are doing to help reign them in. Any great holiday themed crafts or activities that require little prep?

    Happy holidays!

Today was our last day and the whole school puts on a music performance. This gives us about 2 hours of time, and we used that time to have students present their Native American Legends that they have been working on.

I decided to allow parents to come in to listen if they wanted, and they brought in a bunch of snacks to make it into a really fun day.

Could you talk about New Years, and New Years resolutions? Have the kids practice their writing skills as they come up with some of their own? With the younger kids, you could talk about the new year, about how calendars help us keep track, about how we were born in the 1900's, while they're babies of the new millennium...

You could really do a lot with the whole concept of keeping track of the days and years, then segue into New Years resolutions.

I know that for my children the less I play up the holidays and the less I do things in the environment that surround the holidays, the more sane the children are overall. Plus, I try to be as consistent as possible. Since I teach younger children, it helps a lot.
