I have spent today emailing quite a few local, Christian schools in my area. One didn't have email addresses listed and I had to do some searching, but found the headmaster's email. I was on the phone with my husband and my cell phone rang but I didn't get to answer. I checked the number log and it was that school! ACK....I missed the call and they didn't leave a voice mail! :(

No one answered when I called back, but it was after 4:30. Whomever called did so at 4:05p. So, do I call back in the morning and what the heck do I say? I have no idea whom exactly called since they didn't leave a VM. Could have been the headmaster or the lower school principal. I don't want them to think I am a nut, seeing as how I reverse looked up their number to see whom had actually called my cell phone.

"Hi. My name is Mommy Sernity. I received a call from your school yesterday-- I'm hoping it's to schedule a job interview. I wonder if you could connect me with whoever it is who is interviewing???"

It will take guts, but I bet it gets you an interview!

Of course...maybe the Headmaster was calling to ask how in the heck I even got his email! It isn't listed very openly on the website and I had to do some digging, and googling, but I found it! This school never lists its openings, so I totally took a chance at sending over my info.

They will call back. And this time you will be ready. They have to understand that you cannot be at your cell phone every moment of the day. I would send an email and politely say that you received a phone call from the school and would welcome the opportunity to talk if they would like to call back. :)

I sent my info directly to the headmaster and that's the only email I have for anyone there. . So, I am thinking of emailing him back just to say I saw that I had a missed call from his school etc..Think that will be okay to do?

I sent the headmaster another email this morning, so hopefully he will get it early in the day and call back. If nothing by lunch, then I plan to make a phone call. Fingers crossed that maybe they have an opening.

I just checked their school calendar and the office doesn't even open until 9a today due to post planning.

I vote you still call back. Whoever called clearly wanted quick communication, by you just emailing you could be delaying the process.

It was all for nothing. :( They have nothing open on staff, but wanted to know if I wanted to look at being a recruiter on nothing but commission.:eek:hmy: Ummm....no. I am not a recruiter, nor do I desire to be one and would lose my provisional license in doing so. all they could do is say they'd keep my info.

In other wonderful news, Cherokee Co announced yesterday they are cutting all long term sub jobs for fall and will only use subs if needed. All will be done in house to save money.

Wow....seems like every option I look at is dead end. This week has not been a great week.

Forgot to add that he did say that he thought he might have an opening in a year or two. Well...uhh....okay. Let's all hope I am not still looking in a year or two.

Just remember that it's their loss and that God has a great plan for you!

My license is provisional, so if i don't get a job within a certain time frame I lose the certification.

    Mommyserenity,

I had a provisional license last year. In my state if you don't obtain a full-time (120 days or more) position within 2 years of graduating, you cannot renew your license traditionally. There are usually alternative ways to extend this provisional time or renew the provisional license. For instance, in my state I think all that was required to renew a provisional for 2 years was 3 credit hours.

Be sure to check to see if your state has any such back-up plans.

Newbie23....I went an alternate route to obtain my certification during graduate school, so if I do not obtain employment within 4 years then I lose my certification and am not eligible to renew it in any way since it was via alternate route.

What options would you have to maintain your certification, assuming the worst case scenario? Are there any additional courses or tests you could take?

Thats crazy!!! In this economy it is very common to take more than 4 years to get a full time job! Would leave replacements or subbing count for time in your state?

jwteacher...Unfortunately, because mine was an alternate route to certification there are no options for me other than to either get a job and complete my one year of mentored teaching. If I lose the certification, then my only option would be to enroll in a post bac program (at full cost to me, as financial aid doesn't cover it at the schools that offer it) and go back to school and go thru a traditional teacher prep program and then student teach all over again. I know...I know....it makes no sense and in this economy is stacks the decks against me big time. I have until June 2014 to get a job before my cert. is up.

PCdiva...no, subbing or even LTS jobs do not count at all. Heck, not even part time teaching jobs count. The only way to convert my certificate over is to get a full time gig.
