Well I got a hotel for the week to start training tomorrow. On the ride down another principal called me today on sunday to set up a interview for tomorrow in Fort Worth. So I have an phone interview set up for tomorrow while i am on my lunch break. I am hoping one of the two will come through for me. God will lead me to the right job....
Oh I drove by the house Im trying to rent down here and it was rented out. So I am taking it as a sign that one of the two will come through for me.
Ok didnt hear back from the school I interviewed on friday. They were supposed to make a decision today. I called this afternoon but no one answered, so I emailed the principal just asking if he made a decision. The phone interview went great. So Im praying this one comes through for me. I so stressed out over this. My stomach is always rolling. Oh and to make things worse. There was a really bad storm that went through Fort Worth last night. My neighborhood is still without power and I have no idea how my house faired. I have seen some pics from around my area and its not good. The airport that I live about a mile from received a lot of damage. My dad is headed over tonight to check on the house and my dog to make sure she didnt run off. Im ready to be settled. One way or the other.
I have a friend that was hit bad by that storm. I hope everything is ok at your house, and I hope you hear from the other school soon!
How did your first day go in the new school district? I know you are hoping for a miracle, but if it does not happen, it is nice to know that you have a good place to fall back on. So, how did that first day go?
First day was ok kinda boring. 8 hour seminar based on Fred Jones Tools for Teaching. Tomorrow is an 8 hour training sesion on pdas. I should know tomorrow if I am going to be here or not so tomorrow night if I am not driving home Ill be home searching again.
So... Was Fred there? A lot of what he has to say makes sense. I think that an 8 hour day of it sounds long. But, again, he makes a lot of sense. A lot of schools in the DFW area use Fred Jones.
No Fred Wasnt there. His book is good. But the seminar was boring. Two ladies basically going line by line through the book and a few video clips of Fred talking. Headed to PDAS training this morning. Another 8 hour day. I should know today what my future holds. I sure hope I get the job in Fort Worth or I am moving to East Texas.
Oh, good luck, Kev! These situations are so stressful. Not knowing what you will be doing or where. Keep us posted!
Ok didnt get a call today about the job. I decided to call but the principal is out of the office today. So I called the one from Friday and the same thing. Unless I get a call tonight, Im guessing I wont know anything till tomorrow. I am so stressed out over this. Feel like my heart is going to explode.
Ooh, this is so stressful. Try to relax. Somehow this will work out. I know how hard it is not to know what you will be doing! Keep us posted!
So... how did today go? I know PDAS is not the most exciting thing to learn about but all Texas schools require the training. Did you meet some nice people? Are you getting a feel for the school? I know you would much rather be in Ft. Worth. I understand that. But, if it is meant to be, it will happen. If not, maybe you were meant to make a difference in East Texas. Are you in a city? Or is it a rural area? Again, good luck!
Yeah it was a rather boring day. Actually kinda irritating. Sat next to a couple young fresh out of college girls from the same school. They talked between each other the whole time. Kinda hard to concentrate with these young girls talking about so and so gettting engaged and so and so is whatever.... I mean really? The whole time.... Im in Nacogdoches. A small college town. When college is in its a big town. 4 Ele schools 2 MS and 1 high school. Picked up the papers today to sign my son up for school today. The person I was talking to was trying to get me to take my son to the other MS because hers had over 200 7th graders. Which means they will probably have to hire another teacher. I dont have a home yet but am trying to find a place by tomorrow. Heading back to Fort Worth tomorrow after training. Going to call the principals tomorrow for the two schools in Fort Worth. Based on what I hear tomorrow Ill decide what is going to happen. Thanks Leigh
I know these beginning of the year meetings can drag on and when you have so much on your mind... like finding a decent place to live. It can seem mind numbing. I hope that if you do stay in Nacogdoches that you are able to make friends quickly and that your son makes friends quickly. I know your heart is in Ft. Worth. But if you do stay, embrace the area. It might be a great place to live and where you are meant to make a difference. Good luck today and I hope you hear something one way or the other from Ft. Worth. It's interesting... you are really wanting to teach in the Fort Worth area and we just hired two teachers that left that ISD and are so excited. They feel like they have lived in a battle zone for the past 3 years. Each teacher taught in a different school. Both had lots of stories that were unflattering. Having said that, there are schools that have problems even in the best of districts. Maybe you can make the best of this situation if it comes to pass. I wish you the best!
Thanks. Ft Worth didnt call today. I called at lunch and was told the principal would call me back. So I found a place to live in Nac and they gave me my contract today. Filled out my papers with Hr and signed up for insurance. Training is over so my son and I drove back to Fort Worth to start packing tonight. Ill give it a year to get the experience then try to find a new school next summer. I can do ten months. Crazy thing is I lived in Nacogdoches for almost 2 years while finishing my degree then moved to Fort Worth last summer for student teaching last fall. I thought I would have a better chance of finding a job than in Nacogdoches. NISD hired almost 90 new teacher this year.
Well Fort Worth finally called today. They went another way. So I packed up today and started moving. I have to report to campus tomorrow morning then Im headed back to Fort Worth to finish packing and move the rest of my stuff saturday.
kev. I know you didn't want to have to make the move, but hopefully this year of experience will help you.
Thanks. A year can make all the difference in the world. I found out that if I have subbed 90 days this last year that I will qualify for 1 year salary in my district so I am working on finding out. I pretty much subbed every single day from December to the end of May. Oh also heard the district is giving all its teachers Ipads. So thats a plus.
WOW! It sounds like it might be a good teaching year. Hopefully, your child will enjoy the schools this year. Work on gaining a year of experience... Maybe TWO if they accept your sub days. And if at the end of that year, you want to return to the DFW area, you will have some experience and recommendations. Good luck!
Ok hauled a load of furniture down last night and had on campus first day of paid training today and time to work in my classroom. My son and I drove back tonight to finish packing. My dad is coming over with a large 16 foot trailer. Between that and my trailer I should be able to get almost all of it. Ill drive back up next weekend and tow my 1970 Gmc truck that I am restoring for my son's first truck then drive back and get my travel trailer. So for the most part Ill be settled by next week. Finally......
I'm sorry that you have to move, but it sounds like this could be a great stepping stone if you want to move on later. If they are giving everyone iPads, that's a good sign too! Hope you have a great year!
I found a house to rent with the most important quality to me. It has a two and a half car garage. I have dirtbikes and a Harley and a classic truck and lots and lots of tools so I needed a good place to keep them safe. Living in an aprtment and having to rent storage would not have been cost effective for me. I drove up friday night and we started packing. The idea was my dad was going to borrow a friends large trailer and we were going to move with that and my trailer. Well of course the weather had other plans for me. It was raining in Fort Worth and raining in Nac so we decided to rent a Uhaul truck. But I cant get one till next weekend so I have to drive back up next weekend and move. We drove back last night with my Pathfinder loaded down and the trailer full of things that can get wet. I was able to bring down my teaching supplies so now I can at least work on my room more. Anybody know where I can get cut out letters besides the teacher store?
If your school has a die cut machine you can make letters there. I'm in the same boat--need letters and hoping they have one, pretty sure that they do!
kev~the weather was horrible yesterday! I'm glad that you found a house that works! Sounds like it will be perfect for you!
I have an 1988 Sportster that I am going to swap the jugs on and put a 1250 kit on it with Buell heads this fall. I average about 20K a year on it. I am also hoping to find a used Ultra glide this fall. My son is getting to big to ride on the back of the sporty. He is 12 and 5'7". Ill check the dollar stores today. I thought I may be able to find them at Hobby Lobby but they are closed on Sundays. I looked at Wally World this morning but no luck. Im pretty limited on places to shop here. I do not know if my school has a die cutter or not. I may have access at my college but I am not sure if the room will be open this week.
Pretty good market for used bikes now, especially with the recent cc bump on the touring models. I wish I could commute on mine, but after my last back surgery, I'm not able to safely lift it off the stand or back it up easily without help. Hopefully by next summer I'll be back in riding shape.
