Does someone have any quick and simple movement activities in the classroom? I'm looking for ideas to get the kids moving for a few minutes after they have been sitting for a long period of time and then refocus on something new...
It seems like we just did a thread on this...trying doing a search. I can't remember the name of the thread.
Try the song Tony Chestnut....my third graders love to do this as a transition between reading and math.
On a field trip recently the speaker had a magic box with things typed on paper and laminated. Whatever was on the card she held up is what the kids had to do. She would shake the box and then show them. They loved it so much. She had stuff like jump up and down ten times, jumping jacks, run in place, skip, wiggle worms, etc.
I like to do active spelling. We will say each letter of a spelling word while doing a particular motion.
Here is a link for an activity called Brain Gym. One of my master teachers did this with us and use to do it with the students that she taught. http://esl.about.com/library/lessons/blbraingym.htm There is also something called brain dance. I don't have a link to that, but I could mail you the handout she gave us if you'd like.
