Someone (kb?) mentioned making a DONE list instead of a to-do list. I decided to snap pics instead. Started working in my room today. I worked for three hours - mostly on lay-out. I think I emptied one tub and then I had to get out of there - it was just too hot. (We don't have air and the heat index got up to 107 today.)
Supposed to be like that all week! Ugh. Anyway, here's what I've done so far - - and I plan on adding more and more pics until the 1st day of school. If you guys have any advice, feel free to chime in. But please note - - it's a work in progress. And those of you that have seen pics of my last two rooms KNOW that those walls won't be bare for long. ;)

You may notice that I got rid of my desk this year (Thanks a lot, Debbie Diller) and I have stuff spread EVERYWHERE on the work table I'll be sitting at... but I hope to get that totally cleared.

Also, my cooking area blows right now. I set that up as I was about ready to keel over from heat exhaustion. I'm sure I'll change it. The spot in the left corner (next to the fridge, etc.) will be the grocery store.

    More pics coming sooooon......

I'm excited to see your grocery store when you get it set up. I was actually going to post and ask you to post pictures of it when you get it done. I am going in tomorrow. I will try to find my camera before I go as I would like to take pictures of my work in progress :).

Is the grocery store that little nook that you were debating what to do with? Sweet! Looking good!!! I'm sure things will be a lot more fun when it cools off a little. I'm looking forward to more pictures!

OK, I took pictures today! It is a disaster still, but 10 times better than it was when I first walked in and all of my stuff was packed in boxes and just put wherever. I have a double room this year, which is amazing since last year we had a tiny room with no windows! The only thing that stinks big time, is we had our own bathroom in our room last year and this year we don't. But we have a room designated for changing, but without a sink. Ugh! My poor aides!

Oh man I would LOVE to have a separate bathroom!!! And while I'm dreaming, a sink in the room would be nice too - for washing the dishes!

I went back in today and unpacked 7 boxes. Changed the kitchen area which now totally invades the grocery store nook. Not too sure what to do about that one... :(

Everything's still a mess... lots more to do. It's so hard to just UNPACK everything. I want everything to be labeled and gorgeous right off the bat! :D In addition, I'm finding that going from having a desk to NOT having a desk is a real challenge. I didn't realize how much stuff I had acquired. So now I'm having to either get rid of it or buy tons of plastic storage bins at Walmart. I also find that it's the last thing I'm wanting to tackle. You'll notice that the "desk" area just got MESSIER. ha

Even though nothing's set in stone, I still feel like I got a lot done today. Going back in on Thursday. More pics later...

I took before pictures, but not in progress pics. I am slowly crossing things off my list.

Zoom~ looks good so far! I know I couldn't get rid of my desk. Just not possible. I have way too many office supplies. I'm slightly addicted to them, and have to buy as many neat gadgets as I can! LOL

Everyone else's pics look good as well.

I'm going in tomorrow again, hoping to get finished but somehow doubting it. I'll have after pictures whenever it's all finished.

I don't have pictures of my room from this year (yet... they will come) but wanted to join in the classroom sharing. Here are some pictures of my room last year when it was "in progress". There have been changes made since as we added tracking to the whole therapy/PT area and had to move the swing further out and what not. I need to find my camera so I can take some pictures tomorrow.

But here is what the general lay out of the room is. We are very fortunate in the space and areas that we have.

P.S. - the really cute kid on the swing is my Mikey :). LOL

I really love our room and feel incredibly blessed to have it. It was put together a couple of years before I started in the program. They took two exsistiing classrooms and created this.

M2m I've seen these before but I'm soooooooooooooo jealous.

I need to take pics of the classroom... Maybe I'll post some old ones today and update when I get new pics...

M2m- my room is like the size of one of your "areas" lol.

Wow! m2m...what wonderful opportunities that space allows for your program! I've not seen a classroom that has provided for all of those needs in one location. All of ours (even at our seperate sp ed school) are separate areas, so if its PT time they have to go somewhere, if its changing/toileting time, they have to 'find' a suitable private space (in the nurse's office).

You are truly blessed with this environment!

I was thinking the same thing. I've seen BUILDINGS that furnish all the "changing rooms" and "sensory rooms" - but not a single classroom. VERY nice.

Today I worked on my "NOT DESK" area. It's coming together...

And I hung a few things on the walls.

Still a long way to go... but it's getting there. :)

There are advantages to having all of those things be seperate areas as at times it can get a bit crazy when you are trying to do PT work with a couple of students in the PT area and then cooking with a couple in the kitchen and then have a few in between that you want to be doing quiet and focused seat work.

I am not complaining... I love the room and all it has to offer but there are days where it is completely insane with all the different stuff going on in there. Yet if I had the choice to seperate it all I don't think that I would because there way more advantages than disadvantages.

Yes - 10 kids and 9 assistants and myself. I will have to put up pictures from this year as the room there was set up for 8 kids with 5 in chairs with trays and now I need more table space because I have 10 kids with 3 in chairs with trays so it changes layout a bit.

I have one little guy who is grade 1 age who will spend a large part of his morning in the grade 1 classroom (with me doing most of the modifications for him) with his learning assitant. I also have one older student (grade 10) who does community based programming every afternoon (flyer delivery 2 times, recreation once and a work placement the other 2) so him and that learning assistant are out in the afternoon. This means a majority of the time its 9 students and 8 learning assistants and myself in the room.

Yeah I thought you said something crazy like that. I was trying to find that para thread you started. Didn't you start another one where you were talking about the para increase? I just found out I'll be getting two new 1:1's in addition to my classroom para. So that'll be four adults and seven kids - and you've seen the size of my room... And no freakin' air conditioning. Jeesh...

We don't have air conditioning either and its really scarey as I have one student who has some major heart issues and is not supposed to get overheated :(.

Having a lot of adults in the room definately comes with both good and bad.

We are supposed to be getting air conditioning and the electrician guys have been there for almost 2 years now working on it but I'm starting to think its never going to happen - lol. There are days where the no airconditioning is completely horrible but we have pretty good air flow in our room so that helps.

Well, it is already a gong show at my school and the students won't be here until Tuesday:eek:. Every single student in my school has been diagnosed with a severe emotional/behavioral disability. The agency that is providing all of the assistants has told them that they are not to put any student in the time out room and if a teacher chooses to use the time out room, they are not to assist us or watch the child. They suggested taking volatile students for walks in the hallway:help: Now all but 6 of their assistants quit at the end of the school year due to the way they are treated, so we have 10 new assistants at my school that do not know our students and only 5 of those assistants have worked with elementary aged children. My school board is against this and they are in talks with this agency but who knows if a compromise will be made by Tuesday. The agency is awful, so I'm hoping that they would either kick them out this year or at the end of the year. We pay their salary, so the only money issue with the board taking over is benefits.

Yikes! What a mess. How come an agency provides learning assistants for your school? That seems odd.

I think the board is trying to save money. It is really weird. The same agency is in a couple of other schools but they are high schools, so if a student runs, they let them. We have to follow them -- we are right off of a major highway and have had students run down the highway.

It's insane. I have two ceiling fans, a large floor fan supplied by the school, and a tiny fan I brought myself. There is absolutely no air flow though and our heat indexes have been up to 110 lately. It's so bad that I've only been able to work in there for 3-4 hour periods before it's just too miserable to stay anymore.

SO... I got my own room. But it's one of the hottest in the building. And I just found out that one of my new 6th graders removes her clothing if she gets too hot.

What if you give her a card to show you when she is too hot, it could say something like, I am too hot!, or I am hot, I need a drink of water please. Have you seen those inexpensive personal fans? maybe she needs one of those?

We pay their salaries but the agency covers their benefits. I really can't figure out what is in it for them other than it is something else they can brag about.

98% done at this point. Just a couple more things to hang up and serious need to rearrange the desks.

Right now I have them in groups of two for whole group lessons. I'm just not sure. I'll have 7 students - two with a 1:1. And I've got 8 desks. ANY IDEAS???

My son went with me today and was BORED STIFF. Notice the crossed legs.

My "not desk." Notice I still have crapped piled up. Just now it's on the small group work table instead of a desk!

This area is done. Later I'll put their Reading Workshop work up on the BB.

I was so proud of myself yesterday. I got my computers up and running all by myself without having to bother the computer guru! My son tried one out today.

Okay gang... tomorrow's it, then inservice, and then KIDDOS on Monday.

Looks good zoom!! What about a u-shape with your desks?? That's what I do in my room. I'll show you pics on Thursday!

I have three tables made Into my own u shape (horseshoe-ish).
It's Great for groups, teamwork, and really just keeps the kids connected.

You know what, that's actually not a bad idea at all, sk. Last year I could squeeze all my kids at the table for art projects and cooking but this year I'll have too many to do that with. Would be a great way to see everyone's work at the same time during whole group. I'LL DO IT! :woot:
