I need a little help with a creative gift idea for my daughter, who's 2, to give my husband for Christmas. In the past, I have taken her picture in his police uniform & framed it with a poem, we made a photo calendar for him and a little foam photo album, things like that. This year, since she is a little more able to help with the gift, I would like her to be involved in the making of it. But I still want it to be substantial. Does that make sense? Anyway, please post any creative suggestions you may have and I'd appreciate it! Thank you, thank you!

We have a little craft shop near here that I am thinking about taking my son to. It's a store where the kids paint and glaze pottery themselves. They have everything from mugs to plates, to you name it. They aren't that expensive either.

Jen - We have those here too! I think the store is called Kiln' Time. That would be a nice gift!

I can't think of the name of ours...it's not that name, but similar. I'm going to go nuts if I can't think of the name now!!!!! I hate that when you can't think of something on the tip of your tougue....I'll have to respond back when I think of it...

Oh, if the father is really into sports they have a chip and dip set in the shape of a football. I could go nuts in there thinking of presents for people!

Kiln' Time even has a set-up for children to have their birthday parties at their store. The kids get to make a project and then have a cake and drinks!

Does he grill?? I'm gonna borrow Jen's Idea but change it a bit, if he likes to grill get him a blank grill mitt (oven mitt) and let your daughter put her handprints on it with fabric paint and write #1 Dad with the paint. Make an apron too if you think he would use it, get some grilling spices, bbq sauce or grill tools to go with it.

Sports fan?? Get his favorite team gear like a footbal and let her put her two hand prints on it like she is catching it! Or fininger prints on a golf ball, draw faces on the fingerprints.

Tool Man?? Same idea, but get a basic red tool box and use metal paint, Let her decorate it with stickers (cover with varnish) or I used some clear plastic jars, let the kids put stickers of nails, screws, bolts on the lids, then we filled them. (If you do this maybe you can surprize your daughter with a small pretend tool box with pretend tools so she can help Daddy!)

All Daddies need a place to put loose change, keys, etc.... Let her decorate or paint some kind of dish, or key holder. I like to go to the craft store to find the wooden paintable things they have.

To piggy back on the hands idea- you can write "Best Dad hands down".

My sister had my niece by Christmas gifts at the dollar store for the family. She was three at the time, and was allowed to pick 2 things per family member. It was so cute, because she picked things that she thought we would like. I got a bath scrubbie and glittery pink hair clips and my brother a spider man book. Eventhough the gifts weren't on my wish list, it was very special because you could tell she really thinking about what we needed. She will be 5 this year, but I still have my stuff from that Christmas. She also loved the experience, because she did the shopping all herself. Such a sense of accomplishment.

I always let my kids pick out things for their syblings at the dollar store for birthdays and such. ( I got lucky with the $ section at Target right before my daughters birthday, they had pink pig stuff, and she loves pigs!--I didn't have the kids with me but picked the stuff out and when we got home they picked out 2 things they wanted to give her).
