What do you think people who last saw you 10+ yrs ago would say about you NOWADAYS, if they saw your life NOW?

    I'll start. People would say:

    - Weren't you in school last time I saw you?! (It's not quite true, but in a way, it sort of is! :D)

    - You're still living in the same place/house?!

    - You're still dating (my BF's name)? (close to it)

    - You're still not married or have kids?

At least I can say I have a different car than I had 10+ yrs ago & I finally got that several mos ago! ;)

So you're not an intrepreter anymore? Oh you're a teacher. For deaf kids? No?
Well you've gained a bit of weight, but you have the same hairstyle.
Ten years ago you had just moved into your new house, I am excited to see all the changes......oh there aren't any.

    Good thread :)

    They would say to me:

    You still live in ____________?
Last time I saw you we were in elementary school!
Wow, you lost weight (I was a bit chubby)
Your in college to be a teacher? They don't make any money! (what my neighbor said to me  )

This is an easy one. I don't have to guess. I just had a lunch date with someone I haven't seen in over 17 years.

She said she thinks I am, "a handsome man".

You moved BACK to your hometown after 10 years? You never did fit in there.

You didn't marry James? He's an MD now.

You're NOT a doctor? Last I heard you were working on your dissertation?

You're a TEACHER? You went to school for 12 years and you are a teacher?

    You still don't want kids?

These are good! They give such insight into you guys.

I'm not very good at putting things into questions, but I'll try...

    'Your hair is STILL pink?!?'

'Your car is so clean! You were actually on time to our lunch date! You actually had money to pay for it! How responsible you've become!'

'How in the world did you end up in California? Don't you miss Michigan?'

'What happened to (ex)? I thought you guys were engaged.'

That's about it. Not much else has changed at the immediate moment. I'm in the job search again, I'm still going from project to project, I'm still happy most of the time/frustrated some of the time, etc. I still spend unhealthy periods of time on the internet and eat pizza rolls like they're going out of style and love to go barefoot.

    Life is still good.

"You don't have your own classroom? I thought teachers were in demand!"

    "You don't have kids yet?"

    "Nice car!"

I was in high school ten years ago, so considering that people may say:

Oh, I heard you had lost weight...must have been mistaken. (I had lost about sixty pounds out of high school, but apparently I missed it.)

I always knew you'd teach. You said you would since as far back as I can remember.

Oh, come on...you'll change your mind soon! (About having children...I'm not sure why I'm supposed to be changing my mind, but I'll let that go).

You married *******? I always thought you'd marry a farmer. (Well, I did too, but...:))

You still haven't changed your hair since you were two?

You don't have kids yet? Hasn't the clock starting ticking?
Have you gained weight? It looks great you were too thin before.

    1) wow, you don't dress like a total dork anymore
    2) wow, you wear cute glasses now, or you finally started wearing contacts!
    3) wow, you're a teacher! I thought you'd get a job out in the field or working with animals.
    4) Still don't want kids eh?
    5) You got married? You never were interested in settling down!
    6) You've gained weight! (that's a good thing!)

lol...ok, 10 years ago I was 18 and graduating hs...

You're getting married? I always thought you'd have several crushes on several different guys forever...

A teacher huh? I always knew you'd be one...you've wanted to be a teacher for so long.

Are you living near home? I never thought you'd move far away.

Are you still friends with Gina? You two were inseparable in hs.

You've gained weight. You're not as skinny as you used to be.

...funny thing is, our 10 year reunion is in November! :)

You are moving away from (home town), I thought you would never leave.

Your kids are grown up, and having children?

Are you still married to that guy you met when your grandmother introduced you?

Hmmm... these 'always knew you'd be a teacher' lines have me thinking....

'I can't BELIEVE you became a teacher. Weren't you the one who was always scrambling to get 'the guys' to help you with your math homework in the hall before class? Didn't you pound out your AP essays the morning they were due while in Newspaper class? Didn't you join track just so the Social Studies teacher would keep your grade high enough to have a full team for each meet? What are you doing TEACHING??'

And then I will grin, explain that I understand my little ADHD darlings like no one else, and that, yes, I am still scrambling to get report cards done minutes before they are due in the office.

I can't believe after all that time you and your dh are back together? I guess it was really love. He is doing much better since y'all got back together.

    What you have four children?

I never thought you would be a teacher, maybe something in the science field.

Where are you living now? I haven't seen you in years.

Where is N, B, & T? When we saw one of y'all, we saw all four.

Whoa-your husband is hot! Good for you!
You're teaching your little girl?? I could never do that!
You've got a nice little family.
You got fat again. ( Yeah, but you see what I married, right???)

Hmmm... I was 17 at the time:

    "You're teaching elementary?"
    "You're so outgoing!"
    "You moved so far away?"
    "You look so different!"

Comments and questions I actually have received:
"Are those real?" (Let's just say I was a bit of a late bloomer, but nature was VERY kind to me. ;))
Of course, I almost always receive some sort of obnoxious and rude remark in regards to my husband's chosen career. I have a great sense of humor, but people have no tact and aren't funny.

Thanks Ms. I for starting this thread, we can always rely on you to get something interesting going. I love all of your responses.

Haven't seen you in ten years, you were 44?

Oh, your hair is blond and short now, attractive change.
You've put on about 10 pounds.
Oh, you don't walk 18 miles a week any more?
Your two kids are gone and they're financially independent!
    You finally finished grad school!
Still at that same school teaching 2nd graders?
    You're finally a grandmother.
Still married to that same charming guy?
You still have both of your parents!
You're moving after living in the same place for 31 years and changing jobs!!! What are you crazy! You're selling your house? Have you lost your mind? Going to a new job at YOUR age?

The big one: "You're gay????" Then it's always followed by, "yeah, I thought so..."

"You became a teacher? I thought you wanted to go to law school."

"You don't see your family much now?"

    "You moved to the city?"

    "You aren't religious now?"

"You weigh about the same." Yes, except in that time I have gained and lost about 75 lbs!! So I am back to my college weight.

I also might get a comment about my partner's career... I get a lot of "what a catch," or worse "she would be a total catch if she were a man." Um, she IS a catch now.

My life is VERY different from 10 years ago.

Ten years ago I was in college, but I also had been very religious from about 18-20 years old. It was a short time, but those people from that time haven't seen me since! I went to community college then, and when I went away to school, I sort of came into myself. That was such a short phase though, that people who knew me from 15 years ago, meet me and tell me I am doing exactly what they expected I would do! (even the gay thing since I actually had a girlfriend in HS and was out. It was only when I moved and went to CC and got "religious" that I dated men for awhile.)
