I keep my house at 74 during the summer months. However, I got my utilities bill yesterday and it was through the roof! hmy: What temp do you all keep your homes at? My parents keep theirs at 78, but that's too warm for me.
During the day our house is about 76 with the a/c on. At night in bedroom we turn it down to 65 and the room actually ends up being about 70ish. Which I still find warm. But we also keep the heat in the winter at 60.
I keep it on 78, but it rarely cools down to that. We're looking at doing some improvements before next summer, but we know we need to replace the heater soon, so... we sweat a lot in the summer. Just make sure to stay hydrated, and use fans. It's been about 82 degrees in here all day.
79 during the day and 77 at night at the rental house 78 during the day and 77 at night at the home I own
75 during the day, 68 at night. BF thinks he's an arctic mammal and keeps it at 60 at night . I love the cold and the winter, but come on.
I haven't changed my apt's thermostat since I moved in , but it's at 74. It gets cool pretty fast & I try to turn it on as little as possible.
I usually run mine at 75 day and night, but occasionally turn it up to 77 if I get cold. (That doesn't happen very often. :lol
I am curious as to why some of you keep it cooler at night than during the day? I would like it cooler in the day because I am up and moving around.
During the summer time I keep it at 79 or 80 when home and we have ceiling fans in most rooms. When we leave I push it up to 83. During the winter I think it is usually around 70, I think.
I keep it at 79 all the time (when the air is running). It's still too cold for me. We only run the air for about 4 months during the hottest time of the year. The rest of the year we keep the windows open. Don't ever use the heat.
Missy, I can't sleep unless I have at least a sheet and light-weight blanket on. That means if I left at 78 it would be very warm! During the day I'm not usually moving around too much but if I am doing cleaning or major cooking I will turn it around. Otherwise I turn it up during the day to save money!
A lot of studies indicate one should sleep with a room temperature between sixty and seventy degrees...helps the body do it's thing. Yeah, that's not how the studies express it, but that's about what I understand.
I am SO jealous of all of you with air conditioning! Where we live - I'd love it, but we only need it for about 2-3 months of the year! Right now, we have every window in the house open and can typically get the house down to the 60's by morning. By keeping the house shut up as much as possible (and reminding my children CONSTANTLY to shut the doors) it usually sneaks up to low 80s by evening. Then we play the game of figuring out when it's cooler outside than inside so we can open the windows! What a juggling act! In the winter, we keep the house at 68 unless we know my MIL is coming over! Then we'll sneak it up to 71 or so . . .
We keep our house right around 75 degrees during the summer. I have to say that I think this is the longest period that I've ever run the air conditioner. We're going on about a month now. If there is one thing I dislike about summer, it is the heat!
If it is over a hundred during the day, the ac is working almost full time to keep the temp at 78. At night, of course it's cooler so the ac doesn't have to work as hard. I like to be a bit cooler when I'm sleeping. We have ceiling fans on in every room and another fan in the bedroom. We have the ac on at least nine months of the year.
I would be happy with mine at 68, but I can't afford that! I keep the thermostat on 74, and I have the ceiling fan on in the den. I keep a fan in the kitchen and the bedroom, too. In winter I keep my heat on 62. Love it cool!
I live in the south where we use our air pretty much all year round. I am very rarely home during the day so it stays on 82. When I am home/at night its on 79 or 80. My power bill is sky high if I put it lower then that.
Same here! My AC can't get the house below 78 when it's nearly 100 outside no matter what I set it at, so there's no point going any lower.
Well, my body must not be doing it's thing because I would FREEZE at 70!! I keep it at 75 day and night.
We keep ours at 76 during the day and 72 at night. Last month was a VERY high bill so I called and got us on the program that avgs the entire year so that you pay a set amount every month.
My A/C is not the best, either. I set it at 68, but it is usually around 75 by midday when it is 90+. It runs non-stop, which is why I don't bother turning it up when I am gone. Luckily, my electric bill is usually around $140 in the summer. I can handle that better than I can handle not sleeping well! I can't sleep if I am hot!
I had it when I only needed it a few months. I'd die without it! Here, it gets turned on in April and doesn't go off until October. It could get turned off a few times in April and October, if it is cool enough. It literally is never turned off between May 1 and September 30! (Unless I go out of town!)
We keep ours at 72. We live in military housing right now and they ask us to keep it between 72 and 74.
68-72 all the time. I don't like it at all, but my husband hates it warm. It's easier for me to warm up with sweats and a blanket than it is for him to cool off.
We keep ours at 75, day and night. This is the first year in this home that we have run the air as much as we have! Darn heat wave! During the winter, we keep our heat at 65. We have a wood burner stove that heats our home from the time we get home from work until 3 in the morning. It really saves us money on our electric bill.
No AC here and it's been tough sleeping this summer. In winter, we keep it at 60! People think we are nuts but our bills are low. We have a wood fireplace that we use for about 3 hours each evening.
75 during the day. Sometimes I turn it up a couple degrees if my husband is gone. 77 at night. We use ceiling fans in all the rooms too. Our next bill will be the first when we've run the a/c constantly so I'm a little nervous! As soon as temps start cooling off, I'll start opening windows at least part of the day. Can't wait!
