Anyone have tips/ideas for a 6th grade demo lesson? I have to teach one next week. It's an ELA class, and right now they're doing book clubs. They said I can bring my own text. 30 kids, inclusion class, 45 min lesson.

    Suggestions they gave:
Higher level/open ended questions to bring to your group discussion
Different ways to respond to text.
Talking about language in the text

My main problem is I'm not used to book clubs and I am familiar with the reading and writing workshop model, but it's not really my specialty. Also, she said the kids don't read on grade level, I would need to bring a 4th -5th grade level text.

    Thanks! :)

I love book clubs and literature circles, but would not recommend for a demo class you've never met or taught. I suggest you choose a high interest book to read on the document camera and stop every page or pages to ask high level questions and have the students share their answers with a partner.
