Help! I saw another post of a person going from fifth grade to kindergarten because she changed schools. I am in the same school and was given no choice, despite excellent evaluations, but to go to first grade. I would be extremely appreciative for any advice you can give. I have never taught primary. I student taught third grade and liked it a lot. First? Don't know....
Thanks for any suggestions/phonic study ideas/things to study over the summer etc.

First grade is a lot of work but it is very rewarding. First grade is all about phonics, phonics, phonics, phonemic awareness, etc. Kid writing is a great program to use. In 1st grade students are learning how to decode cvc words when reading and writing. They are learning about number sense in math.
They are not independent so model, model, model. You constantly have to reinforce expectations.
Try reading Daily 5. It will help you with small group reading.
