My step-dad turned 50 and we're giving gag gifts at his party next weekend. What should I get? I don't want to get the "normal" - depends, cane, Geritol, etc.

AND my mom is turning 50 next month. She wants a clean, family party. We've ordered invites. I need ideas for game-type things to do and stuff to make her day special!

I saw a bouquet of dead flowers at such a party. Maybe a set of teeth from the toy store--you know, extra big ones. You might be able to find a web site that has ideas.

For mom, a book of memories. Find some old photos and put her life in photos in an album for her.

For step dad...maybe a fake pink slip to a fast, flashy car? Corvette? Porsche? Or even a little model of one.

For your mom, what about a jar (you can buy nice ones at a craft store and decorate it with paint markers, or just buy one already decorated). Cut out 50 small hearts and write one special memory you have of her on each one. Or, divide those hearts up among the attendees and let everyone contribute. I have something like this from my best friend for my 35th birthday, and I still like to take the time to read through them every now and then - so uplifting.

For stepdad, what about one of those book magnifiers? a subscription to the AARP magazine?

This is a game that was played at my husband's brother and sister-in-law's 40th wedding anniversary.
They have five children. Each child wrote five trivia questions about themselves.
Each parent had to answer the questions.
For every question that was not answered correctly, the mom/dad had to chew a piece of gum. The wad of gum continued to grow as the questions were answered incorrectly.
    It was HILARIOUS!

You could decide who would write out the questions for your group of party-goers.
    Take pictures!!! :p

If he has some humor try a Inflatable Walker.
It's like saying even if you're old you can still have fun.

    50 isn't old.

I hate gag gifts...One is funny. A whole party of nothing but gag gifts about getting older is not.

I don't think 50 is old either! So, we'll just roll with it and have fun!

I did a fun thing for both of my sisters when they turned 50. I sent them a box with 50 presents wrapped inside!

When my mom turned 50, I made her a scrapbook called 50 things we love about you. I collected ideas from everyone and found pictures to match. Some are funny and some are very touching!

Great idea! If I was into scrapbooking - that would be awesome. I get bored too easily with it. But I can take that idea and roll with it! Thanks.
