I got this email today that is allowing you to purchase 50 books for $50 for the elementary grades. They have broken up their book packages based on grade range K-2, 3-4, 5-6: http://shop.scholastic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SearchEndecaCmd?Featured%20Shops=50+Books+for+$50&APP_ID=TS&Ne=764&homeURL=custom&viewParam=CategoryDisplay&N=4294962713&goToView=CategoryDisplayView&CurrFilter=Featured+Shops&catalogId=10002&storeId=10001&langId=-1&Ntk=Product_Shop_Rank&Ntt=54119&filterValue=50+Books+for+$50&goToView=CategoryDisplayView&eml=SCB/e/20120802///50for50//shopnow/BC_PC//////&ym_MID=1429732&ym_rid=19458974

Normally costs $178 to $240 but if you type in the code: BIO that should give you the discount. Shipping is around $5 and the offer is good until August 31, 2012.

    Enjoy

I went ahead and ordered the K-2 and 3-4 collections. One hundred books for $100 is cheaper than they sell them for at thrift stores (at least in my area). I figured if I get any doubles, I can give those away as birthday books-I needed to stock up on my birthday book collection anyway. :)

    Thanks for sharing this information!

If they had a science collection I would be buying some but otherwise I don't have any need for them-- I'm hoping some newbie teachers who are starting out their libraries will find this helpful :) And I'm glad others are being able to use the code too!!

I ordered the 3-4 collection last year and got some AMAZING titles. I actually ended up with more than 50 because they gave me a 10 book Magic School Bus set in a collector's box and counted it as 1. :D

I have purchased these in the past. It's a bit of a gamble, but if you are just starting out it can be a good deal.

Do you have to have gotten the email? Is there a code or something? I'm a first-year teacher, so this could be very useful!

I was about to do it but I have spent a lot of money this summer on stuff for next year and I finally just had to stop myself.

Shipping was 4.50 for anyone wondering. I made it that far before changing my mind.

Wow you may have just sold me on purchasing this. I have tons of books, and tons of new books that I bought at the end of the year with my points, but this deal might be too good to pass up!

Hubby has stopped questioning me about why I keep buying stuff. He's usually just as interested in what I'm planning to do as I am and is a science buff too, so we'll happily chat about how I can teach the lesson

If I was purchasing one of these sets, I know he would love to look through the books with me-- we're both dorks when it comes to kids' books (we have a pile of our own books from our childhoods that we're holding on to for our kids).

I got the e-mail too but I'm trying to not spend much on my room this year so for now t least I'm not getting it. I'd love to get the 3-4 and 5-6 though.

The teacher next door ordered these a few years ago and they were most definitely not a bargain! She ordered the 5-6 pack for 6th graders and they were really short, and way under grade level. She can't even give them away as prizes. I hope it works out better for those of you who ordered.

Since we have until the end of August to order, anyone who buys, please post whether or not you like what you get. I'm starting to question myself again.

I look at it this way $1 a book is better than $5.99 that I saw some of them listed for... You get a couple students to read a book a few times and you've got your money worth. Or bring a few out a few times a month just to add something new to your own library...

Will do! It is supposed to take 4-7 business days, and I usually get my Scholastic order pretty quickly. I should have it by next Wednesday.

Reviews are awesome, but I think every order is different. As in, I don't think the 3-4 packs are the exact same books in each order. I imagine they throw together whatever is around the warehouse.

I remember I got a mix of fiction and non-fiction. I was super pleased with the chapter books, but not as pleased with the informational text. The NF was mostly bugs, weather, and topics I already had a lot of. Like someone else said, it was great as a first year teacher though. The books were so new and shiny! :woot:

I wish they had a $50 non-fiction pack since Common Core is all non-fiction happy.

I was just getting ready to order and noticed that the website says it has to be shipped to the school. I haven't ordered anything from the scholastic teacher store website in awhile so I don't remember if that's just the standard rule. Is that what everyone else had to do?

If you do it over the phone you can ask them to ship it to your house. But if you do it online there's no way to change the "ship to" address so they would have to send it to the school. Earlier in the summer I put an order in over the phone so I could get it shipped to my house in order to fill out my library cards over the summer.

Thanks. I decided last night to just order it and ship it to the school. It wasn't a huge deal, I just figured it'd be nice to go through them at home and sort them before bringing them in the building. Then I gave it more thought. I ordered K-2 and 3-4. It'll be nice to not have to put 100 books in the car and have to find a cart to bring them all the way down to the last classroom in the building! :)
