I've just finished the 5th week of my internship and I can honestly say that overall I'm enjoying myself. My internship is only 9 weeks long, so it is a bit odd being on the downhill side of it now. We just finished with parent teacher conferences and next week I get to start teaching every subject. This has me a little bit nervous, but I think it will go well. I just hope there are jobs available for me when I'm done.

Is anyone else halfway done with their internship?

The time is going by so fast! I just finished my third week in Kinder, I have four weeks left. After that I'll have seven weeks in 3rd grade.

I am now teaching every subject. Today was the first day that I felt my entire day was a success. I hope to have more like today in the future!

I thought every state in the country required a minimum of 12 weeks? Mine is 15, I'm on week 4.

I'm in a post-baccalaureatte program in Arizona. It is an alternative certification program. We do 120 hours of practicum work teaching in a classroom before we do our internship of 9 weeks. I am so glad I did this route as I can't afford to not work for more than 9 weeks. It is the reason I changed my major in college from education to liberal studies. I'm happy I finally have a chance to complete this process.

I think it all depends on your state requirements. Just like how my teaching certification in Florida didn't transfer to Arizona. I needed to complete a program and repass all of my teaching tests when I moved. Hopefully when this process is done I'll have the opportunity to finally have my own classroom.

Mine is 16 weeks! Is anyone else's that long? I am doing mine in Germany with the US Dept of Defense, but I live in AZ. Meeko, if you don't mind me asking, which district are you in, and do you like the district?

Not at all. I'm in Tucson, in the Tucson Unified School District. The district was not the one to mandate the time though, it was the college and state. Through the alternative certification program you have to teach 45 consecutive days in the state of Arizona to get an institutional reccomendation, which helps in transferring a certification to another state if need be.

I now have 2 weeks left. My kids today said they thought I was nicer and more fun than their normal teacher (in front of her mind you)...I appreciate the gesture as they are realizing I'm leaving soon. I don't think my mentor teacher appreciated it though. We laughed about it over lunch. I am going to miss working with them as they've truly taught me a lot about myself and how to be a great teacher.
