I love to do read-alouds! When I taught 1st, I used all sorts of books like, Wimberly Worried or Jumping Day. I have absolutely no idea what type to use in 4th grade.

Please...most knowledgable and helpful group, may I have ideas please?:D

    Thanks so much!

    could you ask the librarian?

She might have a good idea of what to include in a read-aloud. Just a thought....

I use First Day Jitters by Danenberg (spelling?) and so far none of my fourth graders have ever heard the book before. I also read several chapters of my first read-aloud book for the year; makes for a nice first day!

I also read First Day Jitters to my fourth graders on the first day. It's a picture book, and I explain to them that the rest of the year I will be reading aloud chapter books, but we get a picture book as a special first day treat. Last year, they loved this story - especially the twist at the end.

I love reading this story I made up on a whim two years ago, yet it's my own personal story. :) Sometimes writing your own can be very exciting, too.

    First Day Jitters

I just bought this book last night and plan to read it to my 3rd graders on the first day. I loved it and I hope they will enjoy it too. I plan to do a read-aloud daily - from a chapter book; but this is a picture book too good to go unused!
    Good luck!

There is another book by the same author - First Year Letters.

I was going to suggest the same book. I'm going to read it to my 5th graders.
