Does anyone here do centers with your fourth grade? If so, how exactly does it work, and what do you do??

I've been beginning to use these in my classroom, too!! Such a great resource!

I do work stations. I highly recommend Debbie Dillers Practice with Purpose: Literacy Work Stations for Grades 3-6

I run 2 small groups a day (20 min. each). During the first small group all other students are working on seat work (could be writing, math what ever is planned for the day).

I see my lowest group first b/c the room is silent (and they typically need the most help with focus, and I can focus intensively on them)

Then the first group goes to seatwork (I also schedule my para time, their speech etc during this part of the day). I see a second group and the class goes to work stations.

Each station has 2 students in it. Students are paired by ability because I want both students to do things that are a little challenging but in the range of their accomplishing.

    Stations I Use:

    Independent Reading
    Classroom library
    Listening Work Station
    Writing Work Station
    Word Study Work Station
    Overhead Work Station
    Reading Games
    Math Games
    Fastt Math

    **new for this year
    Content Area Workstation

I can give you specifics on what the choices are in a station if that would help you

I highly recommend Debbie Diller's book too!
I use a combination of Diller's stations and FCRR centers.

Thank you! I would love to read more about the specifics, if you don't mind. I've never done centers before, but have been toying with the idea. I just don't know where to start. :)
