I got a call today for an interview in Arizona for a 4th/5th grade combo class in Arizona. I'm totally going for it! Very excited! My friends that live in Phoenix are letting me stay with them. I'm currently working p/t at a call center so I was even thinking of trying to drive up and back in one day. From where I am it takes me 5 1/2 - 6 hours to get there. Not that bad, actually. I say that because in the even the job doesn't work out I would have my other little part time gig to fall back onto. However, the idea of getting a nights rest inbetween is also appealing. Anyhow, VERY excited!

Hi emmakate218. I actually have been thinking about Arizona for several months. I had a screening interview with this particular district w/a recruiter back in March. I've also got a good friend who lives out there w/her hubby and 3 kids. The interview is next Wed @ 2pm. :)

I hope you didn't think you'd manage to sneak out of California without me noticing...

Thanks everyone for your encouragement. It's always nice to read those positive thoughts!:) I'm trying to think about what types of questions they will ask me. This is for a 4th/5th grade combo class. I'm even wondering if I should design a lesson and write it up just to show them how I would handle two different grade levels in the classroom. We don't have to do a demo lesson, but I'm sure they will want to know how I'd handle this specific challenge.

    Good Luck Nasimi77!
I am a transplant from N.Y.C. and had moved to Tucson, Az in 1983. Arizona has been very good to me. I hope you find you love this magical place as much as I do! If you have the opportunity, check out school districts in and around Tucson. These consist of Tucson Unified, Amphitheater Public Schools, Flowing Wells Unified School District, Sunnyside Unified School District, Tanque Verde School District, Vail School District, Sahuarita School District and Catalina Foothills School District.
    BEST OF LUCK!

Thanks, scott. I want to stay pretty close/near to the Phoenix area because my good friends live out there. However, I have checked out Flowing Wells as well as Sunnyside. Neither are hiring at the moment but I keep checking. I'm going to continue applying and pursuing districts out there, in the event this one doesn't work out. Arizona just seems to have more teaching opportunities than California, that's for sure. CA is my home, and I will always love it...but lately I'm very discouraged with how things have changed here. Anyhow, thank you again! :thumb:

Good luck! I teach a 4/5 combo. I love to see how much "older" the 5th graders are, because it makes me realize how much the 4th graders grow.
