Let's see everyone's 3rd grade rooms so we can share ideas... I'll start, I am a second year teacher. Here is my room ready to go for Sept. 4th... http://www.flickr.com/photos/12093540@N04/sets/72157601634901986/
Wow! Your room looks great! I love how well-organized and colorful everything is. I'm still trying to remember to take a camera into my room but once I get pictures I'll try to post.
Svteach, your room is beautiful! I always try to make my room really bright too. After all, it's like a second home to me! I think that your "stick to the right behavior" display is interesting. Is it hard to keep track of? Do you have the kids move their sticks into the baskets or do you do it? I tried a simple "stop light" kind of system last year and I never kept up with it. I used it in the beginning and then I don't know what happened. I'm looking for something new to try.
I'm still working on mine... but here is the room so far (I will be creating the bb's this week.) My class is actually a 3/4 combo. http://good-times.webshots.com/album/560140912LkLrBY?vhost=good-times
Your room looks really great so far! Is that a fish tank by the window? I love having animals in the classroom. It's neat that you have a kitchen in your room! Do you do cooking/baking projects with the kids?
violet, The kids move their sticks to the basket. It's not hard to manage at all because the kids have a lot of responsiblity with it. All I do is let them know who stays in for recess and stuff. I even have a student return the sticks at the end of the day for a job
Great rooms! I love seeing everyone elses great ideas. Here is mine: http://s228.photobucket.com/albums/ee260/misscolvinsclass/
That Talk-o-meter is too cute!! I love all the pics of the rooms. Looks like everyone is ready for school.
I like the lunch count-I kind of have the same thing except with popsicle sticks. I like the clothespins better because it's easier for kids to find their name. I might have to get some. School starts tomorrow so I'll probably do it next weekend. Here's my classroom. These aren't the most recent pictures-I've done a little more since I took these.
Far from Home, we have the same last name! Spelled differently though. My classroom is about done, it should be...school starts on Wednesday. I'll post pictures after I'm done tomorrow!
We use OCR (Open Court Reading) and every week we have the kids browse the story and come up with some clues, problems, and wonderings just from the pictures. Then we read the story and go back through and see if they were correct in any of their assumptions.
Do people always think it's Downing?? I always get that-my husband gets so annoyed. Lol. School starts tomorrow for me!
It's a concept/question board-also used in OCR. Friendship is our first unit-so I'm going to change the title for each unit. After reading the different stories in the unit, the students come up with concepts related to friendship and any questions they have. They can post ideas with post its, magazine pictures-anything they want.
I am finally done! Here's a link to my webpage. Photos are on the Classroom tour. http://teacherweb.com/PA/PolkElementary/MrsSaylor/

When I did a kindergarten placement, they called me "Miss Brownie." Luckily, my kids have always got it was Downie...but telemarketers always say Downing!
Doesn't anyone else in the world have a FIRE MARSHALL who inspects and says horrible things like "nothing hanging on the windows" "nothing hanging from the ceiling" and "ONLY 20% of the total walls in the room can be covered" ----!!!!!! Or am I the only one with a fire marshall????? He told a class in another school that they had too many books in their classroom........we look like prison cells - Nope - they actually can have more stuff in their cells..............
I posted mine in the elem forum, but here is the link again... http://www.flickr.com/photos/12493845@N07/?saved=1 I have one more day to put the finishing touches on it...kiddos start on Wed!
Nice room, buck8teacher. Who made the nice quilt in the corner? What do you have the t-shirts posted on?
Fire marshall was in when I was setting up my room and all he said was that my extension cord was a violation.
Upsadaisy, the quilt is from when I was in third grade! Each of us made a square and a room mom made it into a quilt. I was lucky enough to keep it, and kept it all these years! I'm excited to find out that each third grade class mades a quilt during one of our units. The tshirts are part of my word wall. It's three felt pieces that hang from the ceiling. Most teachers put their word wall on the door, but I feel that all of the kids can see it better this way. As for the fire marshall, my dad is the fire chief where my school is. So I had him personally give me the okay before his guys come in during the month of September to inspect my room!
Everyone's rooms are awesome! Congrats! Hope your year is wonderful!!! Maybe I should marry the fire marshall...........(Just Kidding)
Your classroom is amazing! I can't believe you're only second year, you really seem to have it all together Can you explain your colored behavior system in more detail? I'm a little confused.
Thanks for the compliment Pisces, For my behavior the kids start with 6 colored popsicle sticks each day. For each stick they lose there is a different consequence. At the end of the day if they lose 1 or 0 sticks they get a sticker on a behavior chart. When the chart is full they go into my treasure chest...
Everyone's room looks great. I'm new to third grade after 8 years in first grade. I worry my room will be too "baby", but you all have nice bright & fun rooms! I need to stop worrying. Fun! Fun! Fun!!!! Here I come!
