I live in Idaho and the state has just announced that teachers will be receiving $350.00 each to spend in their classrooms. Our principal told us that he would still provide all the papers (printer paper, construction paper, lined paper, etc). What are some of your have to have items for the classroom.

We're also getting debit cards from the district where I teach. I plan to use that money to get a heavy duty pencil sharpener (for my use, not for students to use), a fancy label maker, and some decorative items like fake laurel wreaths and columns for my classroom.

Is this all of Idaho? I'm in Idaho too, (this is my first year) but I haven't heard of teachers getting any money to spend. I emailed the principal on Sunday asking, but he hasn't replied back yet.

We get $100 from the state. I am getting a GOOD pencil sharpener, a pop-up hamper (to hold playground balls and jump ropes), and a timer. I still need magazine holders, but I think I'll run out of money before I can get those.

My school gives us each $200 but we have to purchase things from School Specialty and everything is pretty expensive.

Wow- you are lucky! I get $50 to spend and it has to be a teacher store. I can't complain though because my school does order whatever we need. I like to get good resource books for myself, and supplies that I need (good pens, pencils, etc.) A good pencil sharpener is a good idea!

If you do not already have a scanner/printer in your classroom I would definately get one! It's so nice to have to run that one extra copy of something when someone needs another or to copy that parent note you're about to send home!

I teach First Grade in Twin Falls Idaho. I bought an Xacto Pencil Sharpener this year because I was tired of hearing the mechanical pencil sharpener all day.

kbunch24-we're pretty close to each other. I'll have to ask and see if we get money to spend also.

If I had $350 for a first grade classroom this would be my list, off the top of my head.

extra supplies (pens, pencils, expo markers, chart paper, staples, paperclips, crayons, file folders)
Staples Desk Apprentice (this is a want not a need :))
    Rug
    books (used)
    jigsaw puzzles, board games
    organizing containers
    bookshelf (if not provided)
    file cabinet (if not provided)
    practical teaching books
