I am so excited. I went to a screening interview two weeks ago and already one P is interested in interviewing me. She knows I am flying in and wants to meet with me ASAP. So I'm pretty excited. Now I am trying to put out good vibes and with those good vibes it got me to this question.... Do P ever hire you on the spot? Like the same day as the interview? Or is it procedure to make you wait? I just wondering...what if she wants to hire me can she go ahead and tell me on the date of my interview? So as you all can see I am pretty excited and trying to stay extremely positive.
I received an offer on the spot last week as the principal and I toured the school. This is my first year teaching, so I'm no expert. But, I just wanted to let you know that it is possible.
Good! So there is hope. How does it normally happen? Is there somewhere in the interview that they mention it or did it happen at the end??? I know its all different but i'm just being curious.
Good luck, MsBee! Every district is different, some will hire candidates on the spot and some can't (even if they know they want to hire you for the position). It sounds really positive that she wants to meet with you ASAP, though!
I've also gotten offers on the spot. Now, get on the phone and computer and contact every other principal in the area. Something along the lines of "I"ll be flying in for an interview in your area on July 16, and was wondering if this might be a good time to see you as well." What do you have to lose? And knowing that someone ELSE wants to interview you might make you more desirable as a candidate-- as in "what does that principal see that I've missed?"
I'm going to echo what Alice said. I was being flown in for an interview, and I was able to get into contact with 3 schools to do interviews with during that time. I think the flying in to interview thing speaks to your dedication (and also lets them know someone else is interested!).
Alice, Alice I need you help!! lol I have already e-mailed the P in the area my resume and coverletter and told them I would be in the area during that specific week. Just sent the e-mails out today. These schools did not have any vacancies. I only e-mailed about anticipated vacancies. Should I still call and speak with the secretary and ask if I can come in or if there are any vacancies or wait?
MsBee~I would CALL the Ps and let them know you are coming in from out of town for an interview and was wondering if they had time to meet with you regarding any anticipated openings they may have for next school year.
Yep, Call this time, and let them know you're flying in for an interview. Tell them you would like to go in for an interview for any potential openings-- when would be a good time?? Sure, it's going to take guts. But what do you have to lose?? If you call 30 schools and get 2 interviews-- that's 2 interviews!!!!
Nope. Call tomorrow. Keep track of those where you were able to speak to someone, call the others back on Monday.
One more question. Should I ask to speak to the P directly or should I just speak with anything who answers? I am thinking of something like this" Hello my name is____ and I applied for the ___position. I am flying in for an interview and would like to know if it would be possible to come in and interview for the -----position (or interview for any potential positions). Could I speak to the P about this? Sound ok?
The interview is Monday July 20th. Thats the soonest I could get there and she didn't mind. Just wants me to come in and interview.
OMG!!!!!!! I just e-mailed a P today and she wants me to come in for an interview as well!!!!!!!! YEA. Two interviews in one week!!
Just be sure that the rest of the emails you send out don't look like forwards... pay attention to what you're doing as you send them out. You don't want this to look like a mass mailing.
I was asked, "If I offered you the job right now, what would you say?" I told him I'd have a glass of wine to celebrate. He told me to go have some wine but it wasn't until 3 days later that I got the "You are def. hired."
I'm already on it Alice. I called about 10 schools and they all said the P will be in Monday. Now I am about to call the schools for the anticipated vacancies.
Nothing. I know nothing. One of the schools I swear was interested in me for Gifted and Talented! But I had no experience at all..and I said that. But she just kept on about it. So I think thats why I didn't get that job. I was originally there for 2nd grade. The first interview I went on I still have not heard anything. There were 2-3 positions open and she said it could take awhile so I don't know. In the meantime I just had an interview on Tuesday that went well and another one on Monday.
Hmm...was that gifted and talented position in Prince William County (Manassas) by chance? If so, PM me because I might know something about it.
