Hello! Does anyone have suggestions for 5-minute group activities (2nd grade) to get the students engaged and ready for the day that I can implement in our morning meetings? Thanks so much! :)

I've never heard of "morning meets" and am very curious about them! What's the point of them? What are the appropriate grade levels? I'm thinking my 3rd graders might be too old for this..?

    Thanks!

    Morning Meetings

I'm actually not starting my 2nd grade position until Sept, but what I've come to understand from meetings with my head teacher (I am an associate teacher), during morning meeting you:
    - go over today's date and any special significance
    - one student reports the weather for that day
    - do a 5-minute interactive mini lesson or active group activity
This is to get students energized and reconnected to their classmates.

    Responsive Classroom

I know my head teacher is a big fan of that book too - I will definitely check it out, thanks!

I have used morning meeting with 3rd graders before. It is a good way to develop a positive classroom environment. My students would share something important with the class like winning an award for dance or moving up to the next belt in karate to getting a new pet. Plus it helped with the Ms. J I got, Ms. J I did all throughout the day, you get it in the morning and out of the way. It takes 5-7 mins if that.
