General questions at first...your experiences, education, behavior management....

YES! At my last interview, I was asked to describe in detail what a 90 minute literacy block would look like in my classroom. I was also given a scenario of where it was the start of the year and I had just given assessments to all of my students to assess their fluency and comprehension. I notice that five students are severely struggling. What would I do?

Make sure to also check out the interview questions posts. Those came in very handy for me!

    Good luck!

Make sure that you have questions in mind to ask at the end of your interview. Make sure that these questions are authentic and are not questions to where you can find the answer just by simply looking on the district website.

I'm very passionate about character education, and I brought this up various times throughout the interview. I asked where the school was headed in regards to character education and what committees could I be on, or create, in regards to character education. Both times that I asked about committees, I'd see the principal's eyes literally widen and just look pleasantly surprised.

I also spoke about my desire to be in a collaborative community, and I would ask about the opportunities for collaboration that would be available to me as a teacher.

Good luck! Second grade is awesome. I taught it for 3 years. You will do great! I agree, literacy is a biggie, as well as differentiation...important at all grades but as reading skills solidify you're going to have a wide range of needs to address.

I look forward to hearing all about how you land your new job!

I'm back from my interview! I think it went well. The principal said he hopes to make a decision today but if not they'll call tomorrow. He said he'll call either way so that's good! Since I'll hear back soon, should I still send a thank you email?

Good luck, I know how hard that is...it reminds me of being in high school and waiting for a boy to call. Something I always said I wouldn't do, until I got a crush on someone. Just like I said I wouldn't wait around obsessively for a p. to call. Until I ended up going on interviews.

ha! Well, I did not get the job. P decided to go with someone who had taught 2nd grade before, which I totally understand! (I just recently graduated from college, FYI) BUT the P told me there might be a position opening up in a grade level he thinks I'd be a good fit for, so I'll see what happens with that. I applied for 2 1st grade positions in another district. 1st grade is the grade I want to teach so fingers crossed that I get an interview!

Sorry to hear you didn't get, but it sounds like you made a great impression with the principal!
