So day was my first day and I'm ready to collapse. I was told the cap was 24, was happy to see I only had 19 registered on Friday, but was presented with 25 little ones this morning. Most have never been away from home so there were a lot of tears and asking when they got to go home. I also had to deal with little information from the school on certain school wide hand signals the kids need to know. I was given a "schedule" and, within the schools "Reading for Success", and "script" but I didn't do a chunk of it because it required the students to sit still for longer than they could handle (one slot is 45 minutes). I gave them extra time to draw and play on our playground instead of making us all suffer. It wasn't a bad day, just a tiring first day. My voice is almost shot and I'm thinking bed time will come early but I'm not ready to run in terror yet.
You survived!!! That is an awful lot of kids. When I worked as a kindergarten assistant, we never received higher than 19 children. We of course loved all of them, but when a couple moved in the middle of the year, we were a bit relieved lol.
Congrats on surviving! That's half the battle. My first day of school goal is always the same, love em, let them half fun and make sure they ALL get home. Of course I throw in rules and routines. Drink some warm tea with lemon and honey for your throat/voice. Geez 25 kiddos is a lot. I'm praying that I do not get that money. We have been swamped with enrollment so far.
Glad you survived your first day. My hat goes off to anyone who can deal with 25 kinders and come out standing!
