Instead of making New Year's resolutions, I prefer setting SMART goals. Yes, I've probably been in too many pedagogy classes, but I've found if they're reasonable, my odds of following through are better. Here are a few of mine: I will complete a half marathon by the end of spring (completion is more important that my final time because I have never done this distance before). I will complete my principal certification coursework and pass the state exam by the end of the year. I will cook dinner at least two days a week. Anyone else want to share theirs?
Oh man there's so much I can already see coming for next year. Going to be busy busy. I would love to get my seniors to a 97% college acceptance rate; I want to continue to try to "be here, now" with my family students everything where I'm giving that person my whole attention. I've been working on this and want to continue to improve; There's so much to learn about my new job and everything. I just want to learn as much as possible through the second semester and into next year. And I think my last one is I want to make sure my seniors have a fantastic last semester. Bonus points if I can make it through graduation without crying! I've got my speech roughly written so got to get that finished.
I will only do work-related tasks two nights per week (for a maximum of 5 hours total). I will attend at least one sporting event for each sport represented in my classes this school year. I will pay off my car loan and half of my existing credit card debt by December 31, 2019. I will lose 10 pounds by summer break. I'm sure I'll think of more as time passes, but these are at the forefront.
I will plan engaging lessons and utilizing google classroom for the first time I will get an effective rating on my evaluation at my new school I will learn how to use the sewing machines, etc in my new classroom so that I can plan lessons that challenge and engage my life skills students I will practice my algebra skills so I can be a true co-teacher in my push in class. I will stay at my current job in the new year. (be invited back etc) I will clean house on weekends so I don't have to do the big jobs during the week I will make my health a priority and do what I need to do to stay strong and pain free I think that is enough for now LOL
Switch from biweekly pay to monthly pay (still waiting to hear back from admin about the details, though I was told they’re working on it). Invest more in the stock market as it is crashing and prices are really low. Now is the time to get in! Start exercising more as I’m skinny. I aspire to have a swimmer’s build. Vacation more — I only go once or twice a year and I need to get out more. See every movie I want in the cinema, every month. Buy a new iPad and binge watch Netflix — I need to catch up on several shows, haha! Buy a subscription to Hulu without ads. Start searching for a house. I think it’s time. Go to a different restaurant at least once a week. Get a new wardrobe and new shoes!
I really have only one goal to concentrate on this year. I have semi retired and will only be teaching 2 days per week so I want to concentrate more on improving my health by exercising more, eating healthy, and losing weight. I want to share many years with my husband as we enter this new phase of our lives.
Some that I have done that really made a difference for me no more snooze button church weekly...no excuse fresh air daily (some days I just stand outside and take it in a few minutes. When the sun shines, I stand in it. Makes a difference.) stock the copy machine each morning 5 minute eye to eye conversation with each person in my family/household. This can be harder than I thought. If not possible, I insist on a phone call. This year...I'm thinking water consumption, book reading, or speed limit driving. LOL
Leave work at a decent time so I can come home and cook dinner. I just signed up for a Freshly meal service subscription, so we’ll see how that works out.
Manage an hour of writing 3 days a week or an equivalent thereof. Go hiking at least twice a month. Also make it to church weekly. Start looking into the actual possibility of moving somewhere rural.
- get better at doing independent study - 1st year, I'm doing good, but it's a lot of paperwork so I want to get better with time management - go to the gym 3 times a week at 5 am like I used to - do Zumba classes a couple of times a week . Had shoulder surgery 9 months ago, shoulder is still tight, but I think I can do it - more walking the dog - with all that lose 20-30 lbs that I've gained the past 2-3 years - take my social media to the next level. It has taken off, already got huge following and some sponsorship, now it's time to make some money - summer trip: right after school is out, roadtrip with my German shepherd along the coast of California - Oregon - Washigton - Canada to Alaska (Fairbanks, most likely) to be there for Summer solstice then come back a different route through Montana. Stop and look at pretty places, hike, camp, the whole outdoor experience - go back to Arizona / Utah, and camp for a few days, see different places than last year - during spring break fly to Florida and see my sister and niece and my mom will be there from Hungary. I won't go home this year, so its the only chance. - more camping, more hunting, more fishing, more outdoors. - save money - maybe buy a boat or a pop up camper
