Congrats! I haven't been on A to Z in a while - life's been too busy - but I recommended it to a friend today and it reminded me to pop on. I'm glad to see so many are getting jobs! Congrats to all of you who have new jobs, and best of luck to those of you still looking! Keep your chins up - it's not even August yet!
I have a new job teaching in the town I live in for next year -- no 45+ minute commute! I was also given the holy grail -- aka an actual curriculum / pacing guide for my subject -- for the first time in seven years, three schools of my teaching career.
Thank you, giraffe! I've never been given one and have always had to start from scratch. I think it's going to be refreshing to have some of the legwork done for me, although I do see how it could feel restricting if I am supposed to follow it to the letter. I am just feeling relieved to finally be in a school and department that shows some signs of basic organization!
What grade and/or subject? Junior High Special Ed Social Studies How long have you been trying? 4 years (3 years in Ohio and 1 year in Illinois) How many resumes did you send out? Probably in the thousands by now How many interviews or job fairs? 4 total interviews over the past 4 years (1 in Ohio and 3 in Illinois), my licensure in Ohio was only for Social Studies which seemed impossible to even get an interview for but when I moved to Illinois I was able to easily add special education by taking a few online classes. 1 job fair What general geographic area? Chicago suburbs Moving to where I wanted to live and being able to add special ed to my license so easily (which is not the case in all states) was definitely the best thing I ever did to finally get a full-time teaching job.

I'm so excited to FINALLY be able to post in this thread! What grade and/or subject? 4th grade, for students in need of reading remediation. I think I will be teaching all subjects, but focusing on literacy. How long have you been trying? I graduated in December of 2010 and have been trying ever since - so, 3.5 years. Yikes! How many resumes did you send out? Hundreds. How many interviews or job fairs? 4 job fairs, probably about 15 interviews outside of job fairs. What general geographic area? Virtual (online) school in Ohio.
What grade and/or subject? High School Math How long have you been trying? Since June 13th How many resumes did you send out? 1 How many interviews or job fairs? 1 What general geographic area? Outside Raleigh, NC I'm excited to have finally gotten my paperwork. I had a job for next year, but sent out a resume to a school closer to home. I was offered the job 3 weeks ago and have been waiting for paperwork ever since. So far everyone at my new school has been super nice.
Super glad to add myself to this list!! What grade and/or subject?:Elementary Music How long have you been trying?:Since mid March (I was teaching full-time so it was hard to keep on it) How many resumes did you send out?:30-50 How many interviews or job fairs?: One job fair, eight interviews, and three offers. I picked what was best for me. What general geographic area?: Northeast Ohio It is really important to not give up in the job search and just network like crazy. I am six years out of college and have been through the mill and back with education (my friends and family say I should do PD on job searching!) I left the state only to have a P call me "yankee" all year and get punched in the face by a 5th grader. I came back and got let go from a sub position by another P (I was subbing for my mother who was in the ICU, and worked two weeks of her job before I got "sent home"). With two NON-RENEWALS, I was hired for a year long position last year and had a few hiccups but excellent reviews. It definitely is possible to overcome chaos and get hired.
ILuvMyCello, I actually teared up to see you add yourself to the list. Your journey so has been a rough one, and I am so glad to see you're about to embark on a new adventure. Also, HOORAY for teachers in the arts in Ohio!
My job was changed to second grade! A second grade teacher left and I was given the option to stay in music or switch to second grade. I'm excited to have my own classroom again!
I'm new to the forum but I hope it's okay to post since I'm super excited!!! What grade and/or subject? Special Ed-not sure of the grade level yet because they hired 3 of us for k-4. I'm fine with any of those grades! How long have you been trying? I started this year's search in March How many resumes did you send out? 50+ How many interviews or job fairs? 6 interviews, 1 job fair (3 interviews were a result of the job fair) What general geographic area? Midwest, specifically Chicago and suburbs Congrats to all those who were able to add to this thread, I know I am over the moon!
Landed First Teaching Job What grade and/or subject? Middle School Special Education grades 6-8 How long have you been trying? 9 months. How many resumes did you send out? 24 How many interviews or job fairs? 6 interviews twice for my current Position. What general geographic area? North Central Wisconsin Super excited and Super Nervous too.
Nervous is okay! Just remember we're here to help, but always make sure you have someone in your school to answer your questions.
What grade and/or subject? 1st grade!! How long have you been trying? About a year! How many resumes did you send out? At least 100 How many interviews or job fairs? 4 interviews What general geographic area? NYC DOE.. Specifically Manhattan
I will remember to log on for advice. They are setting me up with a mentor, I hope its a good one. I have seen those relationships be a success and a failure. I know the other gentlemen hired this year for special education is new to teaching as well. I hope there are more people available to help with questions that isn't new. Its not a huge school so there can't be too many left. I shall find out soon.
What grade and/or subject? PRE-K How long have you been trying? COUPLE OF MONTHS How many resumes did you send out? 30 + How many interviews or job fairs? ABOUT 10 What general geographic area? SUBURBAN
