I do get to post on this thread after all. I applied to two school districts. One at a job fair ( and that was weird. Very long day.). No offer. The other district made very few offers so no surprise. I turned in my letter of intent to return to my current school site. Then I was contacted by someone from another school district and talked into applying. I did. The interview was great. The P and I really clicked. Got the offer ten days later. I said yes. So; New school district in CA. Going 5th to 3rd Not really a jump in pay but larger district with more support and opportunities. My third application Happened all within about two and a half weeks. It was meant to be, is all I can say. Sometimes you just know when it's right. I am very thankful for this opportunity. I will learn a lot at my new site. And the P spoke very highly of her teachers and staff. The lesson is; work hard, have a positive attitude, do your best, make your classroom and all that happens in it shine and sparkle. Never give up. Thanks for listening.
Aw, thanks. She has worked full time to support me through dental school so as far (at a job she hates) so we were pushing pretty hard this time to get her out of there. When she comes home completely exhausted every day, it's my job to make the meals, wash the clothes and figure out these applications! :haha:

I got the call while driving halfway across the Rockies. What grade and/or subject? 9th grade General Science (code for Earth Science) How long have you been trying? Since February, but I took a 2 month break while I worked a temporary position and then started looking a little less than a month ago How many resumes did you send out? Somewhere around 60 since February, and 10 since June 1. This was from one I applied for back in Feb that they did not get back to me till June. How many interviews or job fairs? I want to say 15ish interveiws but I got a bunch of calls for interviews during my temp position I had to turn down since I could not take time off. What general geographic area? Northern California
I have mixed feelings, but I've accepted the offer. Contract should be signed next week and board approval at the end of July. What grade and/or subject? 6th grade math and social studies (in a K-6 building) How long have you been trying? A few months. Or three years. Depends on how you view it. How many resumes did you send out?5 or 6. Not many this time! (300 last year) How many interviews or job fairs? 2 interviews this year. What general geographic area? MI This job is just a few miles from my hometown in another suburb. It is a very small district that has financial issues, which is part of the reason that I am hesitant. I've also been warned by the P that this is a difficult group, which is another reason that I am hesitant. But I will be super close to family now, so I am happy about that! I have about 20 living options, and not one of them puts me more than 10 miles from my family or my school. So I am focusing on the positive
Congrats! No long drawn out saga of interviewing this year, what a relief!!! Can you back out of a contract in your state and not receive a penalty if another offer comes up? I know it's easy to be hesitant to accept an offer that isn't ideal in your eyes but I like that you are focusing on the positives! I think once you become more comfortable with that this is the job you accepted you'll ease into the role.
Thanks I'm not sure about breaking a contract. I know it is possible in the summer, but I'm not sure about a newly signed contract. A few job postings closed last week, so if I get a call for an interview, I may try to stall the signing. But I won't break the contract. The P from my LTS used to be the P at this school. They brought his name up. I've talked to him and they didn't call him, but I wouldn't be surprised if his name on my reference list didn't help me land this job. I wouldn't back out because I don't want to be on bad terms with him. (He could very possibly never find out, but I don't want to lose a great reference.)
Congratulations! I taught 6th grade math and social studies combo three years ago. Although I don't have the elementary background, I loved that year. By far my favorite thing I have taught so far! Hope you have a great experience!
Thanks I taught 5th grade self contained for 3.5 years, and 5th grade science/social studies for 2 years. So hopefully this won't be that big of a stretch. I really prefer middle-elementary, but I'd rather 6th than another year in K! From kindergarten to 6th... Quite the jump!
What grade and/or subject? 5th! How long have you been trying? Since 2008 How many resumes did you send out? Hundreds How many interviews or job fairs? For this job, a phone interview on Thursday, and got the offer on Friday!! What general geographic area? Southwest Kansas (coming from southern Ohio)
Having support from friends and family will be super helpful even if the group is a little difficult. You have experience too so Ill bet you will do great!
What grade and/or subject? K-5 Art How long have you been trying? Sent my first app a little over a month ago. How many resumes did you send out? 5 or 6, this was the 2nd job I applied to. How many interviews or job fairs? This was my first interview this year (2nd overall, I'm 2 for 2!) What general geographic area? Southeastern Michigan
Congratulations teachart! I'm happy for you! (Your old district posted that 2nd grade job today. I think it should come with a warning!)
Thanks, and I just saw your post, CONGRATS! So excited for you. (lol about the warning, although it only seems that they drive their specialists out, I was the 4th art teacher in 7 years, geesh!)
Thanks. I don't have a contract yet, so it is not 100%. Not my first choice, but way closer than even your old district, so I am pretty darn close. Now I'll patiently(maybe) wait to either get into my hometown district or my LTS district. I'm honestly OK with my contract taking a while because my hometown took jobs down Friday. But, who am I kidding, they haven't interviewed me since 2006. :|
I'm happy for all of you... And that's great giraffe!!!! I remember reading you really wanted to be close to your family and you got it
I'm within 5 miles, so you can't get much closer My parents actually live in the same town as my new district now (they moved away from my hometown while I was in NC), but that particular town has 4 different districts. Three of which are teeny-tiny and should merge. In the 5 miles from my parents' house and my new school, you actually go through 3 districts.
What grade and/or subject? 4th, all subjects How long have you been trying? 2-3 Months How many resumes did you send out? 150+ How many interviews or job fairs? ~5, but most were jobs in other states I decided I wasn't interested in moving to What general geographic area? Nevada - Moving there to take the job! :haha:

What grade and/or subject? 10th grade World History, 11th grade US History, 12th grade Government and Econ (1 semester of each). How long have you been trying? Four years, off and on. How many resumes did you send out? This year I had done about six applications. How many interviews or job fairs? It was my first one of the season; they were interviewing for two jobs, and I was offered one. What general geographic area? Rural Oregon I'm going to be the only HS social studies teacher in the school (it's a 7-12 building), so very little chance for collaboration except maybe with the LA teachers. I'll have EVERY 10th-12th grade student---about 175 in all, I think. It seems like kind of a tall order, so I'm pretty nervous, but happy.
Congratulations, Portulaca! You will have a ton of virtual collaborators here on the forum. Stick around!
