One year ago I was convinced that I would be stuck teaching overseas forever. Without the leads and advice I found on this forum, I NEVER would have had the courage to try coming back home. This is where I learned where I could find openings when I couldn't afford to take risks. I also learned how to write a cover letter, what to expect in an interview, and the list goes on and on. Thank you to everyone who has ever contributed tips, advice, and personal experiences on this thread. Somewhere along the way, I have probably benefited from your contributions. Again, thank you all!!!!!!

What grade and/or subject? Elementary SPED
How long have you been trying? 1 week
How many resumes did you send out? 26 exactly
How many interviews or job fairs? 1. Just one. All it takes it one
    What general geographic area? Texas

I'm so excited! I claimed it and I received it! I loved the school, principal/assistant principal and just everything. I just felt like a weight was lifting as I was walking towards the school and I felt like I was home. They're going to have to wheel me out of the school at 65 because I'm going nowhere! :D

It's such a big change from what I'm doing now but I'm so ready for it and so ready to have my own classroom. I'm on Cloud 9 trying to stay calm and grounded

I don't regret a minute of my time in North Carolina. My school was amazing. The pay was the only thing that really wore me down. Everything else isn't an issue in a great school.

    Best of luck :)

I'm super excited. I've known since June but wouldn't post here until now because it wasn't official in the system. I literally cried when it was officially confirmed. I can't wait! I've already been in contact with my co teacher and he seems pretty cool. I'm uber excited to begin the school year. Even if it means the end of summer. Lol

Last year was a HUGE hiring year for teachers, and we've lagged behind it the whole season. I know my department hired at least six teachers last year but only one this year. That being said, it seems to have been very successful, and the windows are still open in most places (I know my department has one last-minute opening, but you have to live in the Dayton, OH area).

I like seeing my name on this list!

Oh thank you for all that work you put into putting that together. It serves as a bit of encouragement for those who are still looking.

Don't give up if you don't have a job yet. Just remember, it took me seven years, as long as it doesn't take that long, you are doing good!

Sorry - I'm a bit late to the party - :celebrate:

After 8 years of searching and moving over 9 hours away, I landed a "real" teaching job in Virginia.

Teaching 9th grade English for a rural high school but loving every minute!:thumb:

I can only say to others out there - be patient and be willing to relocate and look outside your comfort zone. Things will happen!
    :hugs:

    What grade and/or subject? 4th
How long have you been trying? 4 years, but heightened my effort massively this last summer
How many resumes did you send out? All were online, but I'd say just looking at overall applications done, maybe somewhere in the 30 range
How many interviews or job fairs? No job fairs, about 10 interviews
What general geographic area? NW WA

I know I haven't posted a ton recently (laptop died, desktop has done the blue screen game a bunch), but I've been reading as much as I can and I've gained lots of ideas, pieces of advice, and more from this place, so thank you! I'll probably be posting a ton going forward...two days until starting putting my classroom together, ahh!

    I got a job!

    What grade and/or subject? 4th
How long have you been trying? 2 years since May 2012
How many resumes did you send out? Well, I would say the number would get close to a hundred. I haven't really counted.
How many interviews or job fairs? 1 job fair and probably 15-20 interviews
What general geographic area? Foothills of NC

My experience last year as a paraprofessional in a Special Education class as a one on one helped me land my first teaching job! The principal of my old school was a lot of help with his reference. Don't ever give up!

    Congratulations teaching1!

Foothills... like Hickory? Mt. Airy? Or the southern border?
