I can't even believe I'm posting here!!! I got a JOB! 1. What grade and/or subject? Kindergarten, but it could change to another primary grade. (I *LOVE* primary!!) 2. How long have you been trying? I finished my credential/master's program in December. I started applying in November, so 6 months 3. How many resumes did you send out? I gave out probably about 15 packets at job fairs and I applied to about 25 job openings statewide, many of which were "applicant pools." I didn't send out resumes cold because MANY districts really frown on that here. 4. How many interviews or job fairs? 3 interviews - 1 screening at a job fair for a district, and a panel interview and a demo lesson for the job I got 2 job fairs - this job was the DIRECT result of a job fair - the school didn't even post openings online - I cannot recommend job fairs enough after this experience! 5. What general geographic area? Southern CA I seriously cannot even believe this is happening - it feels so surreal! The job is at a fantastic charter school that I cannot wait to work for. My DH and I need to move about 60ish miles from where we live now, but I never dreamed of getting an elementary job in this region! Good luck to all of you job seekers - there is hope! I found a quote on Pinterest - "Never let the odds keep you from doing what you know in your heart you were meant to do."
I am 100% positive that I got this job because of the e-mails I sent to principals. I sent out an e-mail with some personal information about me (where I went to school, my qualifications, etc.) along with my reasons for wanting to work at that specific school. I attached my resume, pictures of my current classroom, and a letter of recommendation from my current principal and sent it to every principal in every school district I was interested in. I scored 3 interviews in 2 days. Then when a specific position opened up at a school that I really wanted, I sent a follow-up e-mail to restate my interest and specifically mentioned the position I was interested in. Send those e-mails, everyone!
