What grade and/or subject? PreK How long have you been trying? I graduated from college in 2005 and have taken a windy path to end up at this point. How many resumes did you send out? For this job, none! In the last six years, more than I wish to count. How many interviews or job fairs? This year was by far my best interviewing season. I had four interviews, all very positive. Two of the jobs, I was the "runner-up", for another I pulled out with a job before they checked with my references, and another I was offered the job, but I resigned from the LTS to take this job. I did not interview for this job until after it was offered to me (just a formality). I do like to say that I interviewed that last two years as an AmeriCorp member and this summer as a summer school teacher in the program. What general geographic area? Minnesota Don't give up hope!
whoo got a job!! I applied to an ESL position, but HR ended up recommending for a 7th grade position instead. I think I was the only one who interviewed because the Principal ended up offering me the position at the end of the interview!! I'll be teaching 7th grade science and social studies. What grade and/or subject? Highschool, (juvenile detention, male only) mixed grade 10-12. CAHSEE / GED Prep, 1 class senior portfolio, 1 Geography as elective How long have you been trying? Feb 2011 How many resumes did you send out? 3-4, but did not send one out for this one, it was offered How many interviews or job fairs? 1 interview, but did not interview for this job. What general geographic area? San Diego, Ca This is actually not a teaching position, it's sort of between a long term sub and teaching (but I'm still excited, lol). I've been subbing at a couple of juvenile detention facilities since June. At this school district (Community and Court schools) a sub cannot just become a teacher, the next step is a long term sub position, which is a short term contract + benefits. And only after then they are eligible to apply for a teaching position. So I'm very excited for several reasons, 1. I didn't even apply, because there was no position, but the principal liked me and somehow moved things around . She asked about my major, credentials, etc, so this is CAHSEE / GED prep with only English components, because that's my credential. And the fact that I have the ELL authorization, and I am bilingual (although not in a language needed) played a big role. 2. didn't even have to interview, she offered it. 3. I've only been subbing there for 3 months!! ) it usually takes longer, even a year or so. 4. there is no permanent teacher in this classroom, so it is mine 5. it runs through Jan 31st, at which point they'll determine to keep the position, or not, or turn it into a permanent teaching position. ) I'm very excited !! ) I'm starting Monday, won't even have all the classes yet, at least for a few days, I can decorate and plan, etc.
Recalled last week (they musta overlooked the observations) for 8th Grade English and Social Studies. I start Oct. 24!
