How long have you been trying? I have been trying to get into this particular school system for 2 years.

How many resumes did you send out?
Over the 2 years, I have not been actively pursuing many other jobs, but I have sent out my fair share of resumes, and in most cases, I heard nothing.

How many interviews or job fairs? 1 interview! I got so lucky!

    What general geographic area?
    Eastern North Carolina

And of course what grade and/or subject?
4th grade (which is my all-time favorite grade to teach)

Thank you! I was so surprised to hear so quickly! I am ecstatic! I have to get out to the garage and go through all of my teaching stuff! I am glad I saved it all...just knowing I would be in 4th grade again someday!

Congrats to all the new hires!! I'm hoping we can hit 100 before September :)

I totally think we can do that. In my county alone (central Ohio) there are 98 job openings. Let's hit that triple digit new hire list!

Add my ex-student teacher to the list. (I keep telling him to join A to Z.) He took a job next door to our school as a Pre-K teacher. He gets paid by the state, since it's a state-run program financed by the lottery. So he'll make good money for a year or two before it becomes stagnant.

He's working there this summer as a day care worker and in charge of the sports camp. So he's gotten to know the staff and the director, and likes her a lot.

It's a great school, and he'll come over to visit during his lunch breaks. My co-worker's mother owns the place.

Tomorrow is the start of a new week, one without a holiday.

I have a feeling it will be a good one for the A to Z crew.

Best of luck to all of you waiting to hear, and to the crew dropping off resumes starting tomorrow!!!

You will learn more about teaching kids to read than you ever dreamed possible by teaching first grade. It will be a wonderful experience for you later in life if you decide to teach an upper grade. You will know exactly what strategies to help your struggling readers and writers because of this experience. Embrace it. It can be challenging in many ways. Dare I say it? Yes, they have "accidents". And yes, they just throw up on a whim. And yes, there is not going to be much meaningful conversations because to a six year old, it is ALL ABOUT HIM. But they will make you laugh. They will grow more academically than most other grades, and when you teach a child to read words for the first time and they take off like a kid learning to ride a two wheeler for the first time, you will be rewarded 1000 times over for having been there during the process. All the best! :)

I got a job about three weeks ago but have been waiting to see what grade I would be teaching, and I found out yesterday, so here goes!

How long have you been trying? Since Jan 2010

How many resumes did you send out? Including the ones that I emailed, about 75. I gave out 50 paper packets.

How many interviews or job fairs? 1 job fair (which only yielded 1 interview), 10 interviews, 4 job offers.

    What general geographic area?
    Phoenix, AZ

And of course what grade and/or subject?
    5th

Wow, Diamond, that is great!!! S. FL. What part (you can PM me if you like)? I was from Broward county and was glad to move away from there because there would have been little hope of me finding a job. Congrats!!
