I'm in New South Wales, Australia (Western Sydney). I'll be working from October 2010 until end of 2011 (maybe longer). Initially I will be teaching a junior multicategory disabilities class (K-2). That may finish in April or June (it's a maternity leave position so we are not sure at the moment when the mum will return to work) and then until December 2011 they'll be fitting me in somewhere else within the school - unsure at the moment and it may be in mainstream.

Got a Bio Teaching Job in Los Angeles

I'm a lurker on here, too, but I just wanted to share my hire info. Hope it helps you all with your search!

How long have you been trying? Since March 2010 (3 months)
How many resumes did you send out? About 75
How many interviews or job fairs? 1 job fair, 4 interviews
What general geographic area? San Fernando Valley, CA
And of course what grade and/or subject? 9th grade Biology

I did craft personalized cover letters, followed up directly with HR directors, and sent emails directly to principals when I got no response. However, the truth is that none of what I did mattered. My job offer did not result from these efforts - it came about because I was recommended for the position personally. My student teaching supervisor turned out to be a former principal from the school where I was hired. She took a liking to me, and that was that - I got the job immediately.

Seems like who you know is more important in this economic climate than what you know...
