Its that time of year again...although the job market seems crappy, there are jobs out there and the awesome teachers on this forum are gonna land them!!!! Congrats to our first teaching job for next year! Marci07 When you land a job for next year, please share the following info with us: How long have you been trying? How many resumes did you send out? How many interviews or job fairs? What general geographic area? And of course what grade and/or subject? Marci07, Chicago, IL - 8th grade math
Do I count? I don't think I count...but I'll give it a go anyway. I'm going to be a teacher resident with the Academy For Urban School Leadership, which is a little different. It's sort of like realllly long student teaching. I applied in August, jumped through 2,308,235,649 hoops, and got placed in the 3rd-5th grade cohort for June. In 2011/2012 I will teach 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade after receiving my masters. (Well, ideally. I'll have a K-9 cert so I could technically go anywhere, but let's keep our hopes up haha.) I'm really excited.
How long have you been trying? I had been trying for two years. I was beginning to think I was irrelevant in the minds of school districts, but I didn't stop trying. I had several screening interviews, but zero building level interviews until now. Out of nowhere last week, a principal invited me for an interview regarding a fourth grade position. I had a good feeling after the interview because the principal seemed to eat up everything I said and often commented how my philosophy tied into the school's. I was offered the position the very next morning. Having been hired is still surreal to me. After two years of nothing, to be hired in the middle of March in this economy is a rarity. I feel very blessed and fortunate. Because I know the pain of going month after month, year after year without a teaching job is like, I feel it is my duty to help anyone on this forum willing to go the extra mile in getting that interview. How many resumes did you send out? About 50 in the last two years. How many interviews or job fairs? I went to six job fairs in the last two years. What general geographic area? St. Louis And of course what grade and/or subject? Fourth grade for the 2010/2011 school year.

Thanks guys. After rereading my post, I feel like I was bragging, so I apologize if it reads that way. I really want to emphasize the point that you just never know when a window of opportunity will open for you. Never give up, and while you're waiting, grow yourself professionally so when your opportunity does come, you will be able to take full advantage of it.
Congratulations! I remember how happy I was to finally post on this thread last year! Happy for you all!
Yippeee!:haha::thumb::woot: Okay, I think that's every smiley-face I could find! Here is my info: How long have you been trying? FOUR VERY LONG YEARS! How many resumes did you send out? Um...a million?! How many interviews or job fairs? About 12 interviews, no job fairs. What general geographic area? Ohio...I don't have to move away from my family! Yeah! AND NOW FOR THE GRAND FINALE.... What grade and/or subject? K-8th grade, all subjects. (No joke!)

Well I was co-teaching this year for a new program and while I loved it and the school I was at, I obviously want my own classroom..... Today I got it! There was an open 3rd grade position for next year and this morning I was told it was mine....wahooo!! (now let's just hope there are no more budget cuts haha)

Thanks it doesn't seem real (and there is still a chance something could happen) but I'm so excited and nervous. Can't wait to see that list grow
Oh, no, I was not renewed. And I wasn't the only one in my district (or my school). Good news is, I have several leads -- and the one closest to my home is the best one But, until I have a contract in hand I, too, am once again looking!
How long have you been trying? 5 months How many resumes did you send out? I applied at every district and charter school within 2 hours of my home, so about 40. How many interviews or job fairs? 1 job fair (4 interviews there), 4 district screening interviews, 1 second interview (first was at job fair), and one come see our school day (after 2nd interview) and I was offered to teach a sample lesson at that school and declined. AND 1 first interview in which I was offered a job!!! What general geographic area? Utah And of course what grade and/or subject? 4th!!! I had my choice of 2nd or 4th.
Hooray for mid-west teachers finding jobs even though nobody wants to live here anymore and unemployment is in the double digits! :2up:
