I think they are waiting to hire especially with budgets. The new year for budgets and schools is July 1st. Here, the state is still trying to figure it all out and it affects the schools.

Hopefully things will get a lot better soon for everyone!

I accepted my job offer on Monday and my name will be submitted to the school board on Thursday!

How long have you been trying? This is my second year/second job season, though I did get a job last year, it was at an alternative school and not my first choice by far.

How many resumes did you send out? Probably around 50

How many interviews or job fairs? 2 district's fairs, 1 general multi-district fair this year. I had one screening interview this year, and 3 interviews for positions (the third was the charm!) Last year, I had 6 interviews for positions and 1 screening interview and got none of them. (My current job was my 7th interview.) I know how tough it is!

    What general geographic area? Missouri

And of course what grade and/or subject? I am certified for middle school and high school Comm Arts. I will be teaching middle school reading. :D

I should probably throw my name in there too. I had been trying to decide if I wanted to switch schools or not, but since I've decided now:

Los Angeles/San Fernando Valley - high school math

    Congrats, AMB and raneydae!

I checked last years list to see how many jobs we were at at this same time of year. The list was around 40. I think this hiring season has been severely stunted by the economy, but it's only a matter of time to when things really start rolling again! I'm sure the list will all of a sudden start growing and growing!

That's too funny, emma! I just did the same thing earlier today and was surprised that there were that many more jobs this time last year as there were compared to this year. I figured the amount of jobs would be half of last year's but not around a third.

I think most school districts are waiting until final budgets are approved so many positions that would have been filled earlier last year will be filled later this year because of the economy.

Congrats to all of you. I laughed reading this because I was going to go to the old thread and check the numbers as well.

Great minds!! Okay, I agree that districts are needing to wait on final budgets. It's a tough market.
