I scored 218 on Subtest 2 of the CSET General Science. I am now studying an AP Biology Book in addition to the Usborne Internet linked Science Encyclopedia. Any other sources worth studying?
Hi Teresa, I"m so sorry that you missed by 2 points. I don't know anything about CSET, but while studying for the CST Multi Subject I used a book I picked up in the bargain bin.... I don't remember the exact title but it was a type of "Science for Dummies" book.... it was a refresher type and really helped. good luck. What specific types of science do you find most difficult?
I ordered the CSET series of books, including Earth & Planetary Science, Biology and Chemistry. They give quite a bit of information that is on the exam. Also, I used the SAT study guides by Sparknotes. I passed I & II, by the way. II is definitely more bio-oriented.
If you go to Amazon and search for CSET biology, for example, a white book with XAM in black will come up. These ar pricey, but specific to California's test. Each book (Chem, Earth Science, Bio) also has a large section on lab, lab safety and ethics. If your that close, you probably don't need chem. Also, Sparknotes SAT prep-usually in Bookstars or Borders-are very good.
SparkCharts and SparkNotes are Barnes & Noble products; they'll be at Bookstar, but not at Borders. As for XAM, opinions are all over the map.
:sorry: Wow, that was close. At least you're doing the right thing--not wallowing in a negative mood, but hitting the books. Perhaps the back of your score report can help you narrow down the topics to restudy. Also, be sure to check the "stickies" at the top of the single subject test forum for online suggestions. I think TeacherGroupie just added a biology item to the list. Another suggestion is to use the search window on the AtoZ forum site to search the forums for past posts. There's a wealth of treasure in the archives and other past posts. Here are two other strategies: 1: Go to a used book store and see what's available in the Science, Study Aids, and Teacher Resources sections. 2. Browse books in a new bookstore under Reference, Study Aids, Test Prep, Teacher Resources and Science. There is a SAT2 Biology test, so the book for it might help. It's different than the AP test. (If you have a decent library, you might check there, too.) Give yourself a lot of credit for what you did accomplish and your commitment to succeed next time.
I am studying the SAT biology Spark Notes. I will start on the essays for the AP Biology tomorrow. The CR responses for Orgasimal biology and cellular biology were the ones I had trouble with. Any other suggestions, please?
Check this out for buzzwords you might want to look up, teresaglass: http://www.answers.com/topic/evolutionary-developmental-biology (Um, that word was supposed to be "organismal", yes?)
Hi Teresa, I don't know the CSET but I took the MTELs (Massachusetts) for Biology. The MTEL website had a looooooong list of things you should know, broken down by subject (Ecology, Molecular Biology, Evolution, etc). I took an AP book and went through the check list with the AP book. It took a while, but it paid off. Good luck!
One would expect to see more similarities among single subject exams about content than differences - especially when they're produced by the same company. That would be http://www.mtel.nesinc.com.
