Does anybody have ideas for 100th Day in fifth grade? I used to do a lot in 3rd but this is a whole new world.

I used to do a lot of activities with the 100's board. Carson and Dellosa had a great book (lots of activities on the net) We did a 100 piece puzzle of the US (The kids worked in teams. I got the puzzles at teh Dollar Tree.) I gave the kids white painters hats ahead of time. They had to decorate them for the special day. I had them do the old draw themselves at 100 years old and write what things do you think you will see in your lifetime.

Use the 100 to mean 100% and you can have them finding all sorts of things - if 2 is 100%, what is 1? If 100% of 50 is 50, what is 50% of 50?

Measure 100 footsteps in customary and metric units.
Estimate the weight of 100 objects.
Use a graph and create a design using 10 groups of a pattern with 10 units in it.

Someone here mentioned using 100 day to teach what life was like 100 years ago-who was president, famous athletes/celebritites, what kind of music was popular, daily life, etc.

With my 4th graders, I plan to make a 100 day trailmix with them. I am going to get ten different items (cheerios, m&ms, etc.) and let them get ten of each item.

In the upper grades, attention to the 100th day is not always acknowledged. I always thought of it as a K-3 activity, but if the whole school is celebrating, why not? Have them write a paragraph about what they would do with 100 dollars (writing/math integrated activity).

Ask them how they think daily life will be different 100 years from now.

I'm taking my 5th grade class down to the kindergarten room. We'll buddy up the kids. The K teacher is going to lead them in a simple activity, then they are going to make a book together. The 5th graders will help the Ks to tell their favorite things. We'll have 10 pages with 10 items on each page and call it "Our 100 Favorites". There will be an illustration page next to each page of 10 favorites. Should be cute.
