Curious to see if anyone knows where to buy some (good) 3- to 5-year-old level books for $1 or less. I'm thinking way ahead for Christmas time! Last year, I bought each child a book that cost $1 each (it was one of the How Does a Dinosaur... books (that's what I mean by "good" book!)) but I got them through a coworker who has a Scholastic account. I paid her, she bought them. But I have since moved so I can't use her again :p Is Scholastic my only option?

Check out Dollar Tree if you have one nearby. Some of the books are junky, but some are pretty good.

You can sign up for Scholastic yourself. And when you buy you earn points that can be exchanged for free books.

My wife and I buy books galore at yard/garage sales. Go to a few in your area. Parents are always getting rid of books their kids never used. Even if you don't use them as gifts, you can use them in the classroom. Prices for the type of book you are talking about would be $.50 to $.25, but if you buy a lot, you can bargain the people down.

I recommend buying lots of things from garage sales, whether it is classroom supplies or other things for you home.

    Good luck.

    - haha "junky". I will definitely have to check out the dollar store (why didn't I think of that?!)

-Garage sales! Genius! I heard you can get some really nice stuff in the nice, wealthy neighborhoods.

    Thanks, friends :)

Seconding garage sales; I've gotten some GREAT books at garage sales for less than a dollar. Half Price Books also sells paperback children's books for pretty cheap.

Also, if you're on Facebook, try searching for a "yard sale" group for your area. I'm constantly amazed at the prices I get stuff for.

I currently purchase 3-5 year old books from none other than Goodwill. They always have a wide variety of books and I found so many the children love such as Moosletoe, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, Splat the Cat books and more. I search and search just for books when I go because they are like .89 cents each. Sometimes they have a good deal and you can get 4 for a dollar.

Hope you find some you can use. Good luck on your search.

    Ah, thanks!
The books would be Christmas gifts so I don't want to get them used books!

Right now "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom", "If You Give a Dog a Donut" and "The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School" are all just $1, from Scholastic.

I'm planning on stocking up on these for my class!
